Living on a boat is no different than living on land. In your case, buy a parcel of land that includes a section of lake or river large enough for your houseboat. Make sure the water area is actually part of your land, and not a 'protected' Linden-owned waterway that you can not build on! Then build or purchase a suitable boat, and move in!

Your house boat would likely not be an actual vehicle than you can move, as that limits you to roughly 30 prims. You'd want more for a boat you would live in, and you'd likely want to be able to place posessions inside the boat, like a nice bed. You can't add furnishings to a movable boat in any practical manner.

512 M2 of land (117 prims) would be the minimum, and you'll likely want at least 1024 M2 of land (234 prims) to make a nice looking boat and still have room for furnishings and other posessions.

Two vehicle-type boats from by collection, for an example:

I have a decent large yacht that is only 20 or so prims. It's about 15 Meters long. It has a bedroom in the main cabin, and I could give you a free copy, if you contact me in-world.

I also own a pirate Brigantine that is 277 prims! (Tricky programming and rezzing static objects and similar 'attachments' attached to the pilot allows it to move.) Not something you could live in, but gives you a sample prim count for a very detailed latge boat.

I don't know about houseboats, but there are plenty of different kinds of rentals. Seach under rental inworld. Look for a price and mood that suit you. Be sure to notice how many prims the landlord is offering.

Occasionally someone unscrupulous will not fufill thier bargain. So, I wouldn't pay too far in advance until I was comfortable with a persons integrity.

I personally have rented twice and been very happy. One was a nice mountain cabin on a hillside and one was a modern sky apartment.

Happy hunting.

Glad to help, Victor!

There are a number of places that will be happy to rent to you, whether you are a Premium member or not. Searching for "rent" or "rental" in the in-world search function will likely come up with quite a few listings, and you can shop around.

Personally, I could recommend either of the two sims that I help to manage - Wailele Isle or Nohona Isle. Each is a tropical island themed private sim, and the majority of the homes have direct water access, with small bungalos that have their own docks. If you really wanted just a quiet place in the lagoon to rent, where you could park a small house boat, I am sure we could work something out. :) There's unallocated parcel space that is entirely water or mostly water and a small amount of shoreline.

But by all means, do shop around! And welcome to SL!
