Why too many prims in house?

It says that I have reached my limit for a 8,192 sq. m lot. I have a moderate size house & a hut, helicopter & some seagull. What if anything would maybe be taking up alot of prims-I am 30+days old so only half way decorated! Any tricks or should nots would be greatly appreciated! Also how do you get more water in your hot tub & also make it steam & bubble. Thanks in advance!

It could be anything. Go to About land, the objects tab, then refresh names at the bottom. This will show you a list of prims and who owns them.

#1) Make sure to turn auto-return on for non-residents. If you have friends that come over and build on your land, you can set this high, but I keep mine to 5 minutes.

#2) Be suspicious of that seagull. Right click your objects, and under the General tab you can see how many prims each object takes up. Some of the prettier pieces of furniture are almost guaranteed to be composed of many prims. Animals too.

#3) Keep a budget if you gotta. You can write down how many prims you have available, write down how many each item is, and budget out the items you don't need. Remember to also delete any failed experiments.

#4) Experiment with views. You can highlight transparent to see invisible prims. Panes of clear glass from when you were trying out a home, for example. You can also see "beacons" such as sources of sound. This came in handy when I had an invisible cricket sound in the air.

#5) Don't give up. Many shops offer items that are low in prims and stylish. If you shop around and aren't satisfied, or if you're low on funds, you can try building the seagull with fewer prims. You might even learn to put particle fleas on a low-prim dog.

I'd be suspicious of the helicopter. If it looks good, it's got to have a lot of prims. There's no good way to tell where your prim problems are coming from unless you take items into edit mode and look at prim counts item-by-item. With that much land, it's sure to take some time, but it will be worth it to know where your prims are.

Just clicked on some of my objects & found out that a:

gazebo is 61 prims!
picnic table 17
round outdoor shower 16

The seagull was only 3

A simple hammock has 25!!! Where as a double chaise with canopy (large) has 21

Helicopter has 21 (not bad I don't think)

Will keep updating this

Just the waves are 133 prims

Wall unit with tv/bar/books 30

House is 295 prims (is this average #?)

Guess you have to minimize basic furnishings & then rotate your "toys"-wish there was someway to get or buy more prims-guess more to it than that though.

Hehe, as i owned an island i was wondering how my prims are growing up. As i looked at objects i was wondering too, that there people set objects under water so i couldnt see it.i deleted them and the people are banned for it.dont like it, if other people set down objects at my land without asking me first.

As is came on my land i saw oncetime a girl setting up objects for sale at my island lol.i talked to her but she didnt answer me.i asked her who has allowed to set it up there, but she didnt answer me.so that was a bad day for this girl.

Don't forget to take into account for trees and flowers if you have any. I've found that that's one thing that can eat up prims fast, especially if you use store bought ones instead of linden trees. You really don't realize it as you scatter them about.

Your waves are taking up alot of prims. Do you have alot of them or would something in the lower prim realm work as well? I use Ante Flans waves. Most sections are one prim each. One side of my property is ocean bordered and I'm using 5 shore wave sections, 2 bigger wave sections and 6 crash partical balls on the high ground areas and it doesn't look too bad.

I rent my land... two adjoined lots and a piece of prim land. I have a total of 5360 sqm and a prim allotment of 1226 for all combined. My castle is 269 prims, a crypt in the back with 19 prim, 2 fireplaces, about 6 rooms worth of furniture (and its not all low prim either), various knickknacks & pictures, a few poseballs, a small gazebo (mine is only 9 prim), 2 fountains, trees, flowers, a stone wall around part of my property and waves.... and I still have 35 prim left to spare.

You're right about the toys though, you end up having to use them one at a time, unfortunately. You can invest in a few nice pieces of furniture and fill in with a few things that are 1 prim that rely on the texture to give it that multi-prim look. Maybe look at getting a lower prim gazebo unless you love that one or spent alot of money on it.

Good luck, its a never ending task of seeing things you want and figuring a way to work them in :(

The waves will temp-on-rez which means they won't count.

The house at 294 seems about right.

You could use a Temp-On-Rezzer for some mod/copy items... I recommend http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=166651 as it has no blinking normally associated with these devices.

You have only listed a total of 601 prims for a parcel of 8192sq metres that should hold much more than that - over 1800! (I think if math is correct!).

You need to look at the Objects section of your About Land and see how many prims are owned by you and especially how many are owned by others.

If there are many prims owned by others that you dont know about AND you have Auto Return set to 0 AND you allow anyone to create objects on your land, then chances are good other people have been using your land. Likely not on the ground, but up in the sky. If this is the case, you can carefully return the owned by others prims.

Tells us what About Land -> Objects says, as previously requested!

Temp on Rezzers cause Lag if rezzing objects with many prims.

It should also be said that the standard prim allotment for any parcel is just not enough to really fill it up in the way we fill up our RL homes. If you do see a really ornately decorated parcel you can be sure (a) they've probably used some nice tricks to keep prims down, and (b) they've got another batch of land in the same sim that is standing empty.

Tricks for keeping prims down include the temp-rezzers, but be aware that too many of those can cause your sim to lag. Another trick is using textures to simulate detail on a simple prim (like books on a bookcase).

As you get more experienced at squeezing every last prim out of your land, you'll get in the habit of checking each item you buy and rez. It's nice to hear your seagull was only 3 prims -- I had one that turned out to be over 30!

I have become very adept at prim hunting, so feel free to IM me inworld if you'd like some help finding your major problems. :)

That was not a complete list of items-with the complete list they total 1875 which is the limit. I'm starting to find other things such as small upright waterfall that was 34 prisms!
Thanks for all your help-I can see this is ongoing & have to change my thinking in relating to decorating!

Yeah, I got n00bed by prim limits and cool houses when I first got here. I only now have enough land to put some of the stuff I bought back in the day...ironically I now pretty much build my own buildings. All those structures I bought have found a new capacity in which to be useless to me!

Oh, to be SLyoung again!

After you've examined your counts and optimized, if you still would like more prims, you can buy more land in the same sim, if you have the funds. It took me a long time to catch on to how that worked when I was new(er). If you own an empty little lot way over on the other side of the sim, you can use its alloted prims too at your oceanside spot. Your total number of prims allowed in the sim will then be your number to watch in the about-land display, instead of total number allowed on the parcel (which will be less).

Make sure you didn't drop any jewelry or small, tiny objects that you wouldn't normally see. Once a friend of mine dropped a 200 prim wig under her bed and a 100+ prim necklace on the floor. She couldn't figure out why her prim allotment was exhausted and she was shocked to learn of these items when I came by and found them...lol.
To find tiny items, you should use the About Land, Objects, Refresh List, and click on your name. All your objects will be hightlighted, tiny objects will appear as a bright small dot.
