Second account problems.

Hello, everyone.

I signed up for a second account, however, I was never given the option to pay to have a second basic account created, it just took me to the regular signup screen and I went through that, expecting it to ask to bill me at some point, but it never did. It took me all the way through sign-up and created an entirely new alt for free, but when I tried to add my credit card information, it listed the status of it as "Challenged". Exactly where do you find this link to pay to create a second account?

And is there going to be any problems with my older account because of this mixup? Is this a rule violation or anything?

Hello Dagger. I don't ever recall hearing of this term 'challenged'.

You should, according to recent developments, end up with a completely separate account. The old system of paying 10$ seems to have gone.

You should also be able to access your account from the webiste and enter payment details, even duplicating numbers etc from your main account. They do not get physically tied, merely have duplicate details.

There was a problem with creating a second account using the same email address. The workround for this was simply use a hotmail or similar.

I hope this helps :)

I looked over the information again and realized I had had the title as "Ms." rather than "Mr." in my name on the credit card information and then I refiled the information and still got a "challenged" response. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what that means.

Thanks for the info, I did find it strange that there seemed to be no sign of the 10$ second account payment that others had mentioned.

I also changed my email, as I had been using the same one as my first account.

LL may or may not have fixed this refusal to allow same email.
The status of payment details can take a little while to filter through. As they say there I believe, contact them if it doesn't resolve itself. I had to take this route once.

I just established an alt and, not wanting to get lose her for not being 'legal,' submitted a ticket asking about the fee. I received this response:

From: someone
Hello Ann,

Thank you for contacting us. We are currently not charging the $9.95 fee for first, alternate accounts. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Until then, enjoy!

Regards,
****** Linden

She's actually my second alt, but my first was paid for and that's apparently fine. I just submitted another ticket yesterday, though, because I haven't been able to buy Lindens on any of my accounts since the update and actually received an error message telling me my PayPal account is 'restricted.' It works fine for SLX so I'm hoping it's part the problem mentioned in the new blog post.

In a bit of a pickle and this seemed like the best thread to approach it from.

So I have my "alt" account. I also have this account. I just finished upgrading the alt account to premium, and was interested in purchasing a little plot of land. This account is not (and never has been) premium. I don't like the name, but I've got too much junk on it to close it out atm. =/

Anyways. I go in and attempt to buy lindens and see my trading limit set super low. Bah. Okay, that's what I get for a new name/account. So I head over to this account to buy the lindens here. Had account info on file for months and months, no problems buying lindens before- I'm a CC user, and it's fully up to date info. I get told there's been an error with my request on my first account and it suggests that I reenter my information. Bah. Whatever. I'll just buy spending money on Capella (alt).

So I log over to the alt (premium, low trade limit) and attempt to buy my 10$US limit worth of lindens that I'm allowed to. No dice, again says there's been a problem. Not that they had a problem 15 min ago charging me for my premium account.... (and yes I waited until the billing information had fully updated and verified)

What the heck. So I log in on this account and try to buy from in game- still won't let me. Try to buy from the website on Capella(alt), and now, not only will it not let me, but it's lowered todays limit to 2.50$US! Okay, Back to this account, I go through, follow the link, re-enter my CC info.... wait for it to confirm- and it still won't let me buy.

I'm getting incredibly frustrated- any suggestions? I can survive not getting my nice bit of mainland roadside property at a reasonable price... but I'm REALLY not happy about it.

Not willing to wait 2-4 days on SLExchange- especially since it wants to process my CC through Paypal.

(edited because all that swapping and I posted on a different character! o.o)

Oh god, just read the blog. Knowing my luck I've spent 200$ on lindens today and my husband will read the card bill and kill me.

*chuckles* I doubt he'll kill you, but if he does get annoyed admit it now to him, show him the blog post, explain what happened and... he'll probably wanna sue Linden Labs, to which I say, have at!

Nah, he wouldn't kill me, and I'll show him when he gets home. Now if some of those mysterious lindens would show up in *either* account I'd be happy.

Can the alt account use the same payment/credit card information as the primary account? What about the email address?
I too would like to create a "legitimate" alt, but I'm wondering if these things will be an issue. And what the heck is going on with PayPal these days? Does Linden just not work and play well with PP, or what? And does it matter if your PayPal account uses a credit card or your bank account?

Hello? Anyone have any input on my questions?
I want to go ahead and set up a legit alt, and I want to make sure I avoid any pitfalls regarding payment method, email, etc.

Thanks,
Princess Ivory

to be honest, i don't think they are charging for a second account anymore.

i have a basic 'male model' avatar, and when i was using phone support (LOL) they verified that it was my second account, not ever paid for, and they made sure it was secure with my main.

no talk of a fee ever came up, and nothing was ever charged to my account.

All three of my avatars have the same email address and billing info..I was also able to successfully purchase Lindens from the Lindex with each of them prior to whatever is going on at the moment. I haven't heard back from support yet, but I'm still hopeful that the problem is part of issue mentioned on the blog. Well, as hopefully as I can be given how much trouble LL seems to be having with billing these days.

From what I understand, you can only use a verified PayPal account to pay membership or tier fees. In order to verify an account, PayPal requires that a valid bank account be associated with it, not just a credit card....credit card only accounts are considered unverified.

But LL is NOT charging for alts at the moment according to the email I received from support. Whether they'll go back to it or not at some point is unclear.

I have not been able to create an alt account that uses credit card info at all - not with my primary email adderess or with an alternate email. The only way I can get funds to my alt is to put him on my friends list and give him an allowance from my own funds. I guess he will forever remain a "No payment Info on File" kind of guy. And people think you're up to no good when they see that in your profile.

It's annoying.

Weston, I had this kind of problem with my alt. I phoned LL and got them onto it. Ultimately they came through but mine was a most peculiar problem - LL swore while on the phone, my alt didn't exist on their records and had to rezz it to meet a Linden in-world!
Good luck :)

Gah, how is this response from Support helpful? I'm not even sure what they're saying...is it a PayPal issue or an LL one?

From: someone
Unfortunately, there is no cure for paypal is restricted. I will add your names to a list to be looked at if you want, however I must warn you nothing has been able to be done about the list. i have also seen the error go away on its own...

Do you have another form of payment?

I've used this PayPal account to pay them for nine months with no problems and I still have no problem using it to pay others.

THAT is an official response from Support? Customer service has sunk to a new low. You have got to be kidding me. Why would they want to continue to make it impossible for people to PAY THEM MONEY? Is that any way to run a business?

I'm afraid to make any changes at all to my account, in case I jinx it. Unfortunately, the only way to access your credit card data will also wipe out your existing data. Huh? Don't get that either. I just wanted to double check to see which card I used. Just telling me "Visa" does no good; I have more than one. How about the last 4 digits? That's how lots of other places do it.
What a mess.

Yeah, I wrote back asking for clarification and also emailed PayPal about it. *sigh*
