If I buy a 512msq plot, can I only put a 512msq box over it, and at what height (up to 300m), and only up to the prim limits of that plot?
Or ...
Can I put a monster box 768m high, with as many prims as I want?

Height doesnt' matter. Gotta stay within your limits.
Otherwise We'd ALL be at 768 with HUGE mansions ![]() |

Your Prim limit stays at 117. That means the only change for you is you will have more privacy.
As far as I know whatever you build must stay inside and above your plot. By the way if you do creep outside your plot you will pick up streaming music from your neughbours which in itself is annoying for you. Also if you do it by accident it is possible that part opf your home or an item within your home could be returned to your inventory. If there is no covenant build what you like otherwise check the Covenant closely or you might need to rebuild. I live at 600M. I believe the highest is 768M? |

I've put stuff up that goes higher than 768 - however the base had to be at 768 or below, and I haven't been able to modify individual prims or put in TP landmarks that are above 768.

768 meters is the limit of the build engine... over that height you can rezz objects, but you can't move them or edit them. If you want your sky box higher than that, my advice would be to build your home as a single object, THEN set the altitude. Once you're over 768 meters up, you won't be able to change anything (unless you take it down below that height, obviously) so make sure it's what you want before you go that high.
As for TPing over that height, I don't know... when I go that high, I usually rez a prim, sit on it, then change the altitude of the prim using the Edit Menu. Works like a charm. Kam _____________________

Thank you for your replies. It seems the following is the case:
1. Your box is limited by the number of prims assigned to your parcel, and the parcel size, also 2. Most covenants say the box has to be at least 300m up, and 3. You have to build above the clouds, as they cause lag. Therefore, a teleporter on the ground, to a 512sqm skybox at > 300m altitude, would be the norm, for somone on a budget. |

You don't need a teleporter.
I just gave the friends that are welcome in my skybox a landmark. It takes them up to my skybox just fine, and takes none of the precious prims. |

Three easy ways to get to your skybox:
1: Cubey Terra's free Mark IV teleporter. Requires 2 to 4 prims, is free and easy to use. Can restrict use to a group if you wish. Handles multiple destinations easily. A simple and elegant solution. People can see that someone is using the teleporter, as a cylinder of light flits up or down when it's being used, but they can't see you - just a scrunched up ball of your prim attachments moving pretty fast. The ground station is visible to all, and can be used by anyone if you don't restrict it to a group. If you do restict it to a group, you have to be wearing the right group tag to use it. I use this for most of my "home on the ground to home in the sky" builds. 2: Teleport Landmark. If your parcel and sim have no restrictions on where you can teleport to, just save a landmark for a location in your skybox, and use it yourself and give copues to friends. Uses no prims, is more descrete (nothing on the ground for others to notice or attempt to use). But doesn't always work! One of my alts can NOT use a TL Landmark that I use all the time to get to a certain skybox. I've had them come to the box by offering them a TP while I am in it, and that works fine. They LM the spot they landed, and go back to the ground. They try to use the TP landmark, and remain on the ground! Doesn't matter if they make the LM or I do. BUG! In most cases, this does work though. In a sim or on a parcel where a telehub or parcel landing zone is designated, it won't work. 3: Prim riding. If you know the altitude the skybox is in, and you know a spot that is under it, and if you can rez a prim there... Rez a prim, sit on it, and then edit the Z-height property of the prim to the altitude you want. *POOF!*, you're there! Faster than most scripted teleporters. Nothing to show on the ground. May end up with "prim litter" at either end, if people don't delete the prim after riding it. May not be usable if the parcel is full. Other than that... An easy way to avoid building past your borders: Either build on the ground, and then send the skybox to the altitude you want, or send 4 prims up to the desired altitude after placing one at each corner of your parcel. If you build past the edge of your parcel, it annoys the neighbors and possibly uses their prim resources. Don't do it. They can return what overhangs, and can abuse report you if you repeatedly do it on purpose. _____________________

The size of a 512 is about 16m x 32m and the structure size that maximizes the space would be 15m x30m. To make the largest size structure you can on a 512, start of the ground and create a 15m x 30m platform that sits exactly within your property lines (turn on property lines from the View menu.) Link the platform. In the edit window, adjust the Z settings to your target height. 300m gets you above the clouds and 400m gets you above the height at which objects show on the map.
I strongly suggest an exploratory trip before you choose a height so you don't send everything up to 400m and find that you are looking right into your neighbor's sky house. Back down on the ground, go into the edit menu for your linked platform and use the Z setting to send it to your desired height. Once your starting platform is at target height, you can build from there, knowing that you are within your property lines. To build a basic 15m x 30m box (floor, walls, ceiling) it will take 22 prims. A basic 15m x 20m box takes 16 prims. It also is helpful to lock down your structure so that you don't accidentally move it when rearranging furniture - in the edit menu, choose "lock." _____________________
