Can any one tell me how I can import a jpeg into SL?

I have a .jpg that I would like to use as a picture in my SL home. I'd like to put it into a picture frame or overlay and exisisting picture in a current picture frame.

Can some one tell me if this is possible and how to go about it? Or someone who can provide this type of service?

Thanks for any advise or suggestions.

Click on File, and choose Upload Image. It will cost you 10 lindens to do so. From that point it's a matter of navigating through your computer to the right location, choosing the picture you want in-world, and uploading it. Then you have a texture you can use as you see fit.

You need to convert it to a BMP or TIFF file. There are a number of inexpensive or free programs on most platforms that can do this. You may have some already.

You may want to resize the picture before uploading as well so they maintain their correct size. Second Life downsizes to the nearest power of two, so, if you have a 600x400 image, it would upload at 512x256. You can often get better results by resizing and cropping in Photoshop/PSP/The Gimp before you upload to SL.

Once you have your image (called a Texture) uploaded, you need to apply it to a prim. The simplest way to do this is to create a new prim (click the Build button on your button bar and then click in an open area in fron of you with the magic wand cursor), stretch it out to an appropriate poster size, using the Edit > Stretch feature, and then use the Texture tab on the edit menu to apply your texture to the prim.

This will apply the texture to every face of the cube. You can apply a texture to one face at a time using the (I think it's called 'Texture Select') option in the edit dialog box, and then clicking the face you want to texture before applying the image you desire.

Uploaded textures and pictures that other people hand you always go in your Textures folder, whereas snapshots you take/upload go into the Photo Album.
