Streaming Music

Hi All

Ok how do I get music into my life - lol! No seriously - how do I stream music so that I can play it on my land or homes?

Do I have to purchase a product to do this or?

Go to your About Land window and click on the Media tab. There's a slot there in which you can enter the URL of a Shoutcast stream. Once you put the url in and close the window, you should have music. If it doesn't play immediately, turn your music control off and then on again.

Are you getting music elsewhere? If you aren't, you need to go to preferences and enable sound stream toggle but I guess you already have

It was just I walked onto my new neighbours grounds last night and music started playing - so I wanted to get me a bit of that!

Fromt he menu bar at teh top of the screen : WORLD >>> ABOUT LAND then go to the Media tab. You can place in url streams in the sound and video slots. You can also buy "radios" throughout SL that you can click on to change stations. Many come with a few preset, with the options to add more.

For media streams themselves, I'm not sure. I jsut asked my friends and got bombed with a few hundred options lol

Anyone know if there is just a place to go and see a lsit of streams we can use? If not, that might not be a bad idea to have somewhere.

EDIT: Just to note. You do NOT need to buy a radio to listen to the music on your land. The radio is only a simpler interface than the SL interface if you wish to have multiple channels.

Yes, you can just add the url of the music stream into the media-tab of the "About land"-window when you are on your own land...

And I hope to run into you and grab you next weekend for that photo-session

The exact URL for the stream that will work is a little tricky to track down. I finally found it by downloading the .pls file for the stream and opening it as a text file. It won't show up in my web browser window so I can copy it.

I really need to change mine sometime . . . just haven't gotten around to it yet.

You could also get yourself a radio with a number of predetermined (but editable/changeable) music streams.

You can get all kinds of radios, even old-fashioned jukeboxes, but before you shell out L$, you can pick up a freebie radio with room for about twelve stations, from the BLACK store in the Neufreistadt sim. Address of the shop is Neufreistadt(148,150,172).

You can edit the notecard which gives the URLs of the music streams. I had to deed the radio to my group to get it to work on group-owned land, but it works like a charm. And you can't beat the price.

I also have a free radio (looks like a small green ball) which you can again update with radio urls. It does hold a lot of stations (I have around 60 urls in mine unfortunately a lot of the links do not work)

we have an internet radio station called the Planets Citizens Radio which is run by 3 SL residents from all over the world (in rl that is). we play music of different genres, from 80s to electronica to rock so if you want to listen to us, our media stream is at http://64.92.171.186:5088
