I was wondering if anyone has an idea what this problem might be. I rented a house and am unable to set to home. I get this message "You can only set your 'Home Location' on your land or at a mainland Infohub." The owner of the land seems to think it is a problem with SL and wants me to try later. A small problem is that he speaks spainsh, I speak english, and my roommate speaks german, so it got a little confusing Also, I cannot deed my TV to the group, and am assuming it is because I cant set as home? I am a member of the owners group for the rental. If anyone has run across this and knows how to fix it, or if it is actually an sl promlem I would appreciate the input. Thanks!

It sounds like the landlord needs to check abilities for the group. If he even has the land deeded to the group properly.

I believe you have to be wearing the appropriate group tag at the time.

in the group profile go to the members & roles tab, find your name in the list and click on it, then in allowed abilities scroll down to parcel powers and see if you have "Allow 'Set Home to Here' on group land"

A couple of things - has the land/estate owner set their land options to allow you set that land as home? And I think you have to have "officer" rights - or above - in the group to be able to deed things. The group owner can actually give ordinary members that specific right on it's own, but it does (I think) have an impact on group financing. Others will know more than I. The usual solution is for you to pass the TV to the landowner/estate manager, they rez it up and set the access rights etc... just make sure you get it back when you leave! lol

Mainland You can only 'set home' on land you own or on land deeded to a group to which you are a member and have been given permission (Members/abilities tab) to 'Set-home'. I assume that the land is not deeded (There is a big difference between land set-to-group and deeded). If it is deeded then you need to ensure you have the group tag active and that you have been given permission to set-home. As you are renting then you do not own the land so that option is closed to you. A reason why landlords do not like 'deeding' land used for rentals is to avoid prim abuse. However, I get around this by setting aside a small 4 x 4sqm area for each property which is deeded to group. This allows my mainland tenants to set-home.
Estate land (Islands) Little less complex. Most Islands, such as ours, have the tenant 'buy' the land for a nominal fee thus allowing them to set-home. However, the Estate owner has to have ceartain options allowed in the Estates menu to allow this to happen.
Sorry for the long-winded answer. If you need clarification you can IM me in-world or have the landlord do it.

Ok, so think might be and issue that he may be unwilling to change. He seemd puzzled that we could not set to home. I am wearing rroup tag, under assigned rolls he has only owner is allowed to set as home. Thanks evryone for the input, hopefully we can work it out

Your group role in the owner's group has to have the abilities to set home to here and to deed objects to group. My guess is that the role you're set to does not have those options checked.

Thanks evryone for the input, hopefully we can work it out If he does not allow this most basic of permissions, you should get a new home elsewhere. Since he was blaming SL for the issue, he may not be the most experienced of landlords.
