Got ripped off, need help

I purchased an item at a mall for 1000L and never got the item. I searched every inch of my inventory to confirm I never got it. I then IM'ed the vendor about 5 times over the past few days and they have not responded nor have the refunded my money. I ended up having to buy the same item directly from the creator.

How can I report this person? I'm not going to yell "Thief" just yet but I'd like to at last get my money back.

Thanks.

have you looked at the vendors profile to see if there is information to get with them sometimes they put the information on thier picks page or in thier rl section with an email address..i would also look at thier groups to see when the last time they were online..
i know people that are vendors that just get eaten up with im messages..aslong as you have a record of the transaction or the time and date if you get ahold of them most will take care of it..even if they could not find any transaction information..being summer time the person could also be on vacation..
i would keep trying to get with them and keep the transaction information handy for when you do..
i hope this kind of helps in some way..

Ok wait, something sounds familiar here. The item you were buying, did you buy it *Resale*...from someone that was selling their one time copy of it? Sounds like it from your line of having to buy the item from the creator.

Sounds to me, IF you were buying it resale, you just never...um, picked it up. If it was a resale item, that was not in a vender, you should have done a purchase, and then picked up the item as its ownership would have been transfered to you. I do resale and get testy IMs about this all the time. When you buy resale, you have to pick up your now owned stuff.

If it wasnt resale, then nvm.

You can rat the person out on sites that allow you to name names like Second Citizen and of course warn all your friends, but for the most part you will have to look at it as a US $4 loss. Has happened to us all.

*bites lip and refrains from saying something rude to Elex about having the text of the TOS tattooed on his forehead.

Yeah... I checked their profile so I could IM them but I haven't seen their "last day online".

It's only 1000L to me... I have plenty.... but how many other people are getting ripped off?

L$1000 is a fair amount for an SL product, actually, even if it isn't terribly much in RL currency. I would be annoyed if I'd paid that and didn't receive a product.

Bear in mind of course that there have been a lot of bugs recently and that people do go away on holiday and so on - but if you don't get a response I would, at least, contact the mall owner and point this out. If a mall gets a reputation for having rip-off tenants that isn't good, so that is another avenue.

No need, the line "I ended up having to buy the same item directly from the creator." just sounded like you were buying it from someone other than the creator, thus my reply.

I would just say keep trying to contact the seller, sometimes people arent able to get in for longer periods of time. (There is another thread on much the same topic, just a cheaper amount of Lindens) Maybe their IMs got capped or some such thing. Most content creators and sellers get bogged down with IMs. Its frustrating for them as well as those trying to contact them. GL!

Before we can engage in the excitement of a "Don't hopz on teh pink and blue ballz"-style warning thread we have to eliminate some possibilities:

The transaction might have failed due to a problem or bug. For example, a networked vend might be unable to process e-mail for a short period of time which would cause a problem with delivery of the merch.

The merchandise might be buried in the person's inventory.

The merchandise might fail to materialize in the person's inventory due to an asset server problem.

The merchant might be AFK in Real Life Land and is unable to check for a backlog of IMs and/or they've reached their out-world IM limit.

Try writing your message in a notecard and dropping it onto the seller's profile. I usually use notecards when communicating with sellers, since IMs often get capped.

Hey Elex, do me a favor. Stop responding and quoting my posts. Pretend it's not allowed under the terms of the TOS. I will do the same. Thank you.

ok dumb point...but...sometimes I have encountered when I buy something and pay for it, I have to right click it again after paying and select "Take". Just an observation...hopefully that's not the case.

Have you double checked to see if someone Put an invisible prim over the vendor to intercept payments? That was a common scam a while back, and the reason i Check vendors before i buy from them.

Angel.

Um, hello, it's also entirely POSSIBLE that the vendor MIGHT be on vacation and hasn't logged in to SL for a few days. I own a shop and I'm going to be out for 7 days on my honeymoon; I DEFINITELY won't be logging in. I would be really upset if someone started calling me a crook or thief if something didn't get delivered to their inventory. Jumping to conclusions isn't always nice...
