Hi !

I didn't find the answer before so sorry if an answer exists. ;-)

I have 4096 sqm land that has been divided in 4 smaller parcels.
I plan to use the Hippotech rental boxes which I already bought.
I sat "about land" options for building, scripting etc ... to group only and don't want to deed land to group. Autoreturn objects after 1 minute is activated.

My questions are:

1) If I create a group and give members of this group rights to change media URL's will that work even if they don't wear the group tag (group name visible over their avatar) ?

2) Because of the "about land" options I sat, will they be able to build even if they don't wear the group tag (group name visible over their avatar) ?

3) Is the risk important to keep the group open enrollment activated ?
Because in that case a resident could join the group without paying the rental box and then would be able to build and live in my houses for free. On the other hand if open enrollment is not activated a tenant paying the rental box should be obliged to wait before starting to build what is not a customer friendly behaviour ...

Thank you for your help

1) No, they can't change media except when they have the group active (unless you have it set so that anyone can change media). Furthermore, scripted objects that change media will NOT work unless deeded to group; simply sharing the object to group will not let the script work.

2) No, they won't be able to build, unless the proper group is active, unless you let non-group members build (which would be autoreturned in 1 minute).

3) Yes, it's important, to keep enrollment closed, or else anyone would join the group and start building. My policy is that if I don't get them their group invite within a few hours of their joining the group, I give them extra days of paid rent; more important in the long run to have a satisfied tenant who will stay for months, than a day or two of lost rent.

You'll want to look closely at all the group abilities you make available. I detail them at the bottom of the charter I use for my rentals, at: http://slged.blogspot.com/2007/06/mainland-sim-rental-charters.html

1, Yes they will be able to change Media, even if not wearing the tag.
2, They will need to either wear the group tag, or set what they build to the group tag for it to not be auto returned and 3, never have enrolment open, always make it invite only :)

Thank you to both of you for quick answering ... even if for question 1 I have two different opinions. ;-)

I think some of the confusion about Parcel Media has to do with what happens when the land is *deeded* to group. In that case, scripts that change the media setting must be in prims deeded to group in order to work. In land *set* to group, it seems that people in the group are able to set parcel media even without that group being active--one of several inconsistencies with group perms.

By the way, if you aren't aware of it already, deeding land to a group gives a 10% tier bonus, in case that helps you out at some point. It does, however, require care because of trickiness like the parcel media thing above, and especially in selling land and managing tier contributions.

Yes

Yes, but the object ned to be set to the group, lest they will be autoreturned.

No. I am renting out several parcelsand I am keepoing the tenant groups open. Periodically I check who's enrolled. Anybody not associated with a tenant gets the boot. If in doubt, I ask the tenant.

Good luck ... renting is fun. You meet a lot of nice folks that way.
