SL absolutely useless tonight!!!

Good God!!!!!! I've never seen it so slow. It was impossible to do any thing. I tried TPing to different areas but had the same result. I also IM'd a few friends and they were haveing the same difficulty. I finally logged off and I'll try again in the early morning hours. I sincerely hope this doesn't become a trend becasue if it does, what's the use.

I am in world at the moment with very little problems. But Yes Teleporting has been a problem for a few days.

I lost my skin. My skin! That was demoralizing enough to just make me log for a while. It's like losing a part of your identity.

Yesterday, one of my friends lost both his shape, and his skin!

He was pretty disconcerted. Fortunately, they did return eventually.

If "lost" means the "can't be found in database" message: those items are automatically restored about an hour after attempting to wear them (/139/54/148240/1.html).
I had this case yesterday, several clothes, eyes, skin unusable. After some frantical relogging and cache clearing it was repaired again.

Well, responding to the subject in the OP, yes, SL is absolutely useless... I just wish I could say it was an isolated incident

I cannot TP, I cannot move, I cannot build, I cannot rely on keeping my inventory, I cannot have a convo, and I CANNOT EVEN FREAKING SCRIPT!!!! On top of every other f*$(#ing problem, SL keeps remapping keys that extremely critical to scripting, like ';' and '(' and ')', etc. This only occurs in SL, and even while it is happening in SL it happens in no other application on my machine.

And, since scripting and building are the primary reasons for my being at all interesting in SL, I really have no reason to use SL at this time.

Maybe next week? Good thing I'm old enough to have learned not to hold my breath waiting for things to get better, but I'm still young enough to hold out some hope.

SL has been going slow off and on ALL WEEK, I'm starting to wonder what the deal is... Every once in A while I get "Item not in database" messages, and have to relog to attatch anything since "An object is pending attatchment on that spot."

I wonder how long this will go on for...

Thanks for all the responces. Fortunately my Av wasn't missing clothing or body parts. If there's a chance of that happening, I think I'm going to skip logging in ths weekend. That would ruin the entire experience for me!!!!!

I was considering buying some land. Now I'm not so sure! As a newbie, SL holds so many adventures to explore. But having to continually fight to do the most basic functions automatically substituties frustration for enjoyment. I'll check in tomorrow night and visit again after the next upgrade which I believe is this coming Wednesday. If these issues aren't resolved in a timely manner, Carolyn Crosley will have to begin searching some where else for her virtual life.

Useless oh yes! Trying to be in a place that has more then 5 people in it is bad.... duh I own a club.. people were sinking unto the ground all the time packetloss was amazing.... prim attafchments never spawned... We endedup closing and pray that to tomorrows big event... things are a little better. But yes basically its useless

Don't. There is simply no strong reason to do so. If for some reason you absolutely feel you need land, rent it from an island owner or something.

I have paid between $40 and $75 USD per month for land since I started SL, and I feel it's largely been wasted.

When I logged in a lot of people seemed focussed on a realtively small number of venues: apparently this was some kind of celebration of a singer who's just died, or something like that. Presumably this unusually tight collection of people in a smallish number of venues bent the performance a bit.

I have to say, with my professional hat on; this all looks and feels like a LAN built out of generic components that don't tune or scale well together. Everything looks just great while there's no load, then gets bad, fast. Well-tuned LANs respond much better to high throughput... I'd love to see what the card types, topologies, and specs in Gbps/sec are on the core switches.

Make sure your draw distance is down to 64.
