By any chance, were the objects Deeded to a group to which the alt belongs, with next-owner perms set to allow Transfer and Copy?

I never deeded an object/land and yesterday even made this Alt's group "not active".
What about if you rent space where all objects are deeded to a group and on the same land you have objects for sale? I'm really confused. Later today I'll check different objects with this Alt again and will post the results here. Please, post if you have any helpful ideas.

Sorry this doesn't seem to apply to the problem. But to answer this question, hardly any rental space requires objects to be *Deeded* to group (which would really be weird, cuz then the whole group would split the proceeds of any sales), nor *Shared* with group (cuz then anybody in the group could just take them), but they often require that the object be *Set* to group (so that they can turn on auto-return of non-group objects, and otherwise deal with non-group litter and griefing prims).

(The reason I was guessing the objects might have been Deeded to group was that it became impossible to Edit them. That happens when no-Mod next-owner permission take effect, and Deeding to group is a transfer of ownership. And if those next-owner perms allowed Copy and Transfer, then anybody in the group could Take Copy, as the alt was experiencing.)

Qie, thanks for your answers. I am still struggling with the same problem. It’s even worse because now all objects, once locked, can not be Edited anymore, I mean, the whole Edit area gets dark, I can not even move the object. Because of that I can not see what permissions are set. If it’s a no copy object, I can not do anything, if it is a copy object, a can rez a new one but if I lock it I have to leave it where it is, no way to move it. BTW I have 3 different vendors that (I guess) are locked (dark Edit area) but my Alt still has the “Take a Copy” option?!?

I have this “I can edit” “I can not edit” problem on and off since the last update. To be sure the group settings have nothing to do with this, I set all group options to NONE, so no group is active but it did not help at all.

Anybody experiencing the same problem or having an idea what’s going on?
Any help will be appreciated.

Does your alt have the right to edit your objects? I know that I can edit my friend's objects, and can take copies of them as well.

As far as I've ever been able to discern (remembering that I'm no expert :p), if you lock an object, you are locking *all* of it's editable attributes. I do this to the walls in my house so that I never have to fear moving them. If I do want to alter something, I have to unlock it, shift or edit it and then lock it again.

Milli's right; if you lock an object that means that you can't edit ANY of its features (including moving it) until you unlock it. It's good for when, like Milli said, you've finished something complex and don't want to screw it up by accidentally selecting it. I definitely use it all the time, esp on the house and my shop. Once I accidentally changed the textures of the entire house to some horrible black stripe thing, and it took a LONG time to go around and change every single surface back to the way it had been.

Oryx and Milli, the problem is, once locked, the object can NOT be unlocked, the edit window gets dark, nothing is clickable! I have this problem since the last update, sometimes it gets to its normal state and I'm able to lock and unlock, then suddenly gets unavailable. Today I was not able to unlock ANY of the locked objects. This is getting really frustrating. I just want to know - am I the only one experiencing this phenomenon or in other words is this a SL issue or my fault and in the second case what am I doing wrong. BTW, since the last update I have difficulties using camera controls - have to click on the arrows many times to change the view. For some reason I had to download this same update 2 times. Need more ideas, friends.

Make sure that "Select only movable objects" (in the Tools menu) is unchecked.

um, do you mean"select only my objects"?
this was my guess too. between that and possibly beig deeded is the only way i can see all the effects discribed as ever happening. i'll try some tests when i gett in world though.

Sorry, just picked up this thread again, and unfortunately have little to contribute about the root of the problem that hasn't already been suggested: that is, that the unavailability of Edit controls *might* be the result of a setting you've selected in the Tools menu; otherwise nothing springs to mind. Well... under conditions of *extreme* lag, even the edit window contents can take a distressingly long time to load.

Well, even if your mouse batteries are fully charged ;) , clicking on arrows is a very painful way to move the cam; it takes a bit of practice, but it's well worth the effort to get used to moving the cam around with Alt-Drag and Control-Alt-Drag.

Not that this helps explain the actual problems you're having. One might be tempted to try a complete uninstall, manual removal of Documents and Settings | username | Application Data | SecondLife, a fresh download, and re-install from scratch.

Well, that's another possible culprit. :D
But I really meant "select only movable objects". A locked object is immovable -- so it this option is checked, it won't be possible to select it and unlock it.
