i learned how to split my land, made up 2 parcels, put it up for sale, then took it back off the market.

now i don't know if i want to sell.

i had a store, but it was a pain. do i want a house, jsut land for no reason, or just an updated look to my store?

it's nice land - but by an ad farm (ugh), altho i have that totally blocked so it's not really an issue.

wut would you do? does anyone pay tier but not use the land? wut's the point then?

I guess it kind of depends on what you mean by "not using" the land. I have three parcels for (kind of) three different reasons.

My first land, a 1024 on (and mostly in) a lake, was and still is my home -- my official "home location", but more importantly, the place that I have a sentimental attachment to. I spent a while finding something that was exactly what I wanted, and I really overspent (L$ 30/m2) but it was totally worth it. I lucked out in that it turned out to be a really stable place... I've been there about 4 months and still have all the same neighbors. My use of this land: privacy for trying on clothes, place to host occasional guests, launch point for boating and surfing, and a quiet place to sit and enjoy the ambiance (campfire, gently lapping waves, sounds of crickets). But most of all, it's just a "nesting" thing, a place that I fix up as I see fit, to make my own.

The next parcel is 7168 of flattish grassland up the hill in the same region as my lake home. I originally bought a small plot there so my alt could have her own home location and modeling studio, but without using up my prims. Then a ton more came available in the same area, and I decided to get it all and turn it into a public garden. I still haven't built that, so for now it's an open field with grass and trees and a little Japanese rock garden with meditation cushions (my alt's home is a skybox, so not visible on the ground). So its uses: alt's home location, extra prims for my home, elimation of the explicit open-air porn animations store, elimination of the light-polluting and possibly laggy light store, maintentance of an attractive open area, and hopefully future site of a lovely Japanese garden. And until the main garden is built, I can use this as a sandbox building type place.

The third parcel is a 1024 of ocean in the southwest corner of Salerio region, bordered on two sides by open Linden ocean (part of a 7-10 sim Linden ocean). I bought it mainly so I would have a place to launch watercraft without worrying about someone blocking my access (the Linden sims might get sold one day, but for now it seems they're staying public). As a public service I've set the land so others can launch their boats there as well. With a nice simple dock and clubhouse, it is now the Nautilus Harbor Public Boat Launch.

So that's $40 tier plus two annual premium memberships, for a grand total of $52 per month for my land. There are no businesses, so I pay that all myself. Fortunately I can afford it, and considering that I spend 4-8 hours every day in SL, it's a reasonable expense for a recreational activity. Having the land significantly enhances my SL experience by giving me a sense of territory, a canvas for my (admittedly dilettante-ish) creative process, and a way to give back to the community.

Keep 512 meters and go to zero tier. Sell the rest by listing it for the same per meter price as the lowest on the first mainland land sales page. It will sell by tomorrow, even if it's by an ad farm.

i tried to trial-build on my 512. not enough prims. i thought about selling it since the 1.15 upgrade, since the lag has been so bad since then. but it seems a 'bit' better since 1.17... that is, if i could stay logged in for more than 10 minutes at a time. ugh!

anyway, i got the whole land at a fair price, and i have some friends who might want it some day, so for now i'll keep it, i guess, and probably just give it to them when i really am done. it's on the far north-eastern part of Shark butting up next to a really nice sim with a cool domed garden which i enjoy, and a great museum type place, so a garden type deal sounds pretty neat. thanks for the idea. plus, there is a nice store up there by me, and a pet store, and mostly no one allows nudies, and there is barely any camping bots around there. i couldn't ask for more serene land.

the store actually made $, but i don't have time to keep adding new things, and i never could get the darn alpha channel to work to make "good" stuff. i actually wanted to make full-avatar costumes, but i just don't have the skills, nor the time to learn.

Thanks, I really hope it comes to fruition some day. I've got attention deficit disorder, so my work on it is pretty sporadic. There's just too much pretty shiny stuff to distract me in SL!

Come to think of it, there's all sorts of fun stuff you could do with a plot you're not using. Maybe put in a spooky graveyard? You know, for all the ghost prims!

Just a note to say I _so_ know how you feel. A nice plot of land, but lots of ideas on what to do with it and not sure which one to go ahead and attempt to make.. snap.

I don't know how to solve it though.. I just built a sky workshop over it and practiced stuff while waiting for a decision to strike me.

i'm going to try a cabin theme, and if that doesn't fulfill me, i'm going to go all the way... with a junkyard.

Unused land is of use to people who own other land in the same sim as the prim allowances of all one's land in a sim can be used on any of that land.
