Hi, happened twice today, I got hmmm attacked(?) by someone and their spammy object sending me thousands of textures, I can't see the object or who sent me it and I don't know what is this for! My computer gets a bit slow but I can close all them clicking on discard, on my laptop it definitely crashes, is this it's objective ? Is there a shortcut to close them all or avoid it?
I couldn't get help on the help channel or with any Linden, I guess they are a bit busy to me! I can't report since I have no idea who made it!!! *cries*

[18:01] SDI Defense (v1.3) gave you Technical Difficulties. Open your chat history, and then mute the object spamming you from the drop down at the top. Mute works for objects as well as avatars.

There is no live help any more, went away with this update. Ingame help is officially a thing of the past sadly. The only way to get help now is by email or phone, a huge step backwards imo.

Also, try going into busy mode if you can real quick when this starts. Then while you get your bearing and see what is happening, you can mute the object or person and hopefully send an AR if that is your intention.

From: Slayra Ellison Hi, happened twice today, I got hmmm attacked(?) by someone and their spammy object sending me thousands of textures, I can't see the object or who sent me it and I don't know what is this for! In the preferences you can set the maximum number of particles (for particle system things like fireworks, which can also use custom textures, I see Super Mario often) allowed at one time on your client. If your computer is being bogged down, try setting the number to something really low (or off).

What the OP is talking about is griefing tool which sends the victim hundreds of textures which each begin to open in their own window on the screen. These are not particles, but texture files. These quickly fill the screen so you cannot see anything else, and lags most computers to a crash. Not sure what kind of defense there is against it...

Texture Spammer

The device is usually named either Spamcube FX or just plain Object. It sends you literally hundreds or thousands of snapshots, which you can of course discard, but there is no indication of who is doing it, which makes it nearly impossible to file an AR. Often the texture in question is of a graphic nature, including scat or mutilated animals.
This is a real problem in some of the places I hang out, which are griefed on a regular basis. Live Help (when there was such a thing) offered only that I should set myself to Busy to protect myself (and my fellow patrons in the club) from the textures. Unfortunately, this rejects IMs and people offering me genuine inventory (causing the inventory to be deleted forever if it was a No Copy item). Griefers can make the game essentially unplayable and escape without consequence.
There NEEDS to be a feature where texture windows show you the name of giver (or the owner of the object)

I remember a epidemic once before where i had to stay in busy mode most of the time ot avoid people from using a folder exploit to crash my client. Thank goodness LL fixed it. What i propose LL do to fix this is set up transfers into a inbox form. Instead of poping up with textures/notecards in your view, and having those blue dialogs block your minimap, i propose LL give us sort of a mailbox feature that all your offers go into. including friendships and teleports. Then when your good and ready, you can look in there and pick out what you want and discard the rest. The inbox should also put it all into groups like how the windows taskbar and gmail work. basically everything being given to you by the same source will be 1 option with a collapsed tree you expand.

Hey, that's a great idea! It's too bad about that type of spamming. But from this thread, I'll know how to handle it when it does happen to me.

It would give defense against inventory offers, but still allow you to listen to your groups and other things you do. A Preference page could be dedicated entirely to busy mode with on/off check boxes for everything busy mode has control over. we could just refer to it as a firewall hehe.

[18:01] SDI Defense (v1.3) gave you Technical Difficulties. Ahhh, I know what that is... It is a script advertised for "Anti-griefing". Someone must not like you if you got hit twice in one day.

Check your history to see the name of the person sending the textures and then mute them. Then they won't come to you anymore.

From: bladyblue Bommerang Check your history to see the name of the person sending the textures and then mute them. Then they won't come to you anymore. It doesn't hurt to try but the person who uploaded the picture, and the person doing the actual spamming are almost never the same. The problem gets unsolvable when you're hit with one (or several) where the name changes with every single inventory offer (those seem to be the most common, or the ones that made Help Request anyway), making it impossible to mute, unless you happen to know who owns the objects (muting the owner will mute everything). The message should really read: " Object Name, owned by Owner, located at Sim (XX, YY, ZZ) gave you..." so you at least stand a chance or which would at least very much speed up the amount of research LL has to do to delete the object(s) from in-world. Ideally, the ability for an object to offer inventory across sim boundaries should just be heavily restricted. Setting busy ideally would just give some breathing room, but at least in 1.14 it was partially broken and inventory could just be offered regardless.

There WAS a feature like this in one of the First Looks; all textures offered opened in the same window, and had tabs to them. If you wanted to refuse all, you just closed the window, and *BOOMBP!* all gone.
Wonder what happened to that...

Wonder what happened to that... I remember that. it did sorta bring a problem about resizing the pictures, but it was nice to have everything neatly confined to one window.
