Hi I've recently started selling items on slboutique.com however what i did not realise was that you have to have your vendor permanently rezzed! I was wondering if anyone would let me hide my vendor on their land somewhere; I'm not talking a huge vendor with pics of whats for sale, just the default one SLB gives you.

Ta in advance!

Max.

I have room to spare and could use the traffic. But if this is tooting my own horn, Strife, please slap me with the wet noodle and call it a day.

IM me in game.

Why would you want to HIDE your Vendor?

An SLBoutique vendor (or SLExchange vendor) is not for selling items.

It's to put your items in to sell them on a website. It must have a permanent, stable location in SL for it to work.

You don't really want it to be seen, and it can't be used by others. That's why they want to hide it.

Hi Max, if you can't get Abba when you look, I'll be there in a little over three hours.
I have a cave on a site to up my prim count. Fairly water-tight in a respectable neighbourhood :)

General considerations:

As the vendor owner, you need to have access to your SLB Vendor prim to add new items to it. So if you put it on someone else's land, make sure you'll be able to get to it when you need to.

As the host for someone else's vendor, remember that an SLB vendor prim does chatter on occasion, as it refreshes its connection to SLB. Anyone in chat range can hear that. (If anyone knows a way to alter the SLB Vendor Prim so it only whispers, or so it only talks to it's owner, I'd love to know how!)

That said, one trick a friend of mine uses for his SLB Vendor, which is on my land, is that he textures it to resemble a painting on the wall. Hides it in plain sight, as something that adds to the place, rather than detracting.

Right as always Ceera.

My land is set to my group, which is invite only (well you can join but it'll cost you $1kL *grin*). I've extended an invite (free!) to him and he's on the allow list. I have the room and am more than happy to host a corner for him. :)

Just out of curiosity, is it difficult to make one of these fancy vendors i see in shops that lets you scroll through items for sale etc?

Thanks :)

That is a JNEV vendor. I got one and dont use it much. But I have no where to put the server. You can use it for free but you are on your own on placing the vendor and paying the rental fee to place it somewhere.

I just need to see if I can make it pay you and not me O_o. I will ask the group when I get back online.

Most of the malls offer at least one free, low-prim/low-lag vendor that you can use for getting started. Send me an IM in-world, and I can give you a couple of them.

The nicer vending systems like the JEVN system are a complex programming task to make from scratch, and usually you're better off just purchasing an advanced vending system.

I started off with free 3-prim vendors, that were good for about 20-30 items per vendor.

I moved to a JEVN system a while back so I could have networked vendors, and could update all my stores at once, from a single location. There are several other systems that do similar networked access, such as APEZ. If you have more than 2 or three locations

Shop around. Talk to some merchants that use a vendor that you like the look and feel of, andf ask them how they like using that style of vendor, and where they got it. Most merchants are willing to take a little time and fill you in, if you ask politely.

Mine's teensy and hidden in a jug on the table by the door :) I think of it like hiding your keys under the rug or something.
