so there we have it ... it is now COMPLETELY ilegal to operate ANY gambling establishment in SL, if you do so you will be banned and have all your stuff removed (as per the blog) and that means the works ... slots, blackjack etc
Whats the feeling on this .... ????
No Gambling ........ no camping ... half of SL's campbots will be unemployed

A review of the relevant TOS (and the legal concept of gaming) leads me to believe you may be okay playing chess (as it is a game of almost pure skill) but almost all other SL type gaming are now possibly finished.
That does mean load less campers, perhaps one possible benefit.
I do feel sorry for the casino owners who have invested considerable amounts of money in game. For example the Gold Rush casino group (1 to 4) will completely loose their business, although a few minutes ago they were still up. I think this concept (and Linden Labs TOS) clearly underline the point you should be careful investing real money in game.
Two other card games "may" be able to argue the winner is more dependent on skill rather than pure chance, and that is Bridge and Poker although there was a recent case in the UK courts on that point (Poker) and the Poker operator lost his legal case.
Finally it will be interesting to see what happens to the WSE and the various in world "Banks"

I must have missed something because last time as I understood it you just couldn't advertise in search about casinos and had to keep your language pg. I have never been big fan of casinos for various reasons but last time I was exploring last week. I ran into several. Is their now a total ban and how are they planning on enforcing this? I am American I assume its against the law for me to gamble inspite of fact I have periodically played few games but those in other countries can. The strange thing is in American even within the area I live there are tons of legal gambling places but internet gambling is illegal. I wonder why?

The Government can't regulate internet gambling, and you don't know if the site is on the level. More importantly, the States don't get their share of the profits as they do with in country casinos and lotteries. It's all about the money. I think it's stinks that LL did their usual horrible job of implementing this, and wouldn't blame anyone in this business to cash out and leave SL. But as we saw with the ageplay and braodly offensive sagas, things are going to change.

O.k., I guess they did shut down gambling. I just saw another thread about it and questioned it. Wow, crazy. I wonder how long SL will be able to keep it's user base if they can't keep the activites that draw residents here in the first place. I know alot of you that post here are more into the wholesome aspects of SL residency, but sex, gambling, and other vices draw people into this world. It's just like RL in that respect.

It's nothing to do with morals, Hon. Just as with the Ageplay scandal, it's to stay on John Law's good side. It was coming, when Casino Ads were banned we knew they wwere on borrowed time. But the Providers should not have pulled the rug out the way they did.

I've been quite happy in SL exploring, building, and playing....and not in that particular order...hehe Never once have I set foot in a casino. I have gambled in Hard Alley before though...not sure if I won or not ( the lab results aren't back yet )....hehe I don't see sploders as gambling...maybe because its more of a side activity while dancing and listening to music...though maybe its not to some people.
