I apologize if this question has been answered elsewhere. I am looking for recommendations on a good animation override. I'm currently using a Wet Ikon, and it's just not working out. I recently dropped a good chunk of lindens on some nice anims, and cannot get my AO to play them with any reliability. I would welcome any suggestions other residents have on well-made AOs and where to find them.

I am having the same problem. I started looking on the SLexchange, but some options are very expensive.
I don't know what to do. EDIT: Posted while Tiana was posting. Sorry. Thanks for the info. |

I have had good luck with the ZHAO. It's also free.

I've had a couple crashes when clicking on the ZHAO's button, but I think it's my fault. In any case, is there an AO that contributes less lag (client or otherwise) than others? I'd readily sacrifice usability for less lag.

Good Advice
05-01-2007 11:07
Thanks for the advice. I did a little comparison shopping on the exchange, and the DNA looked like the best deal. It's working great so far, and is easy to use. I also picked up a copy of the free Zhao for my penniless alt.
The only thing I don't like is that some of the standing animations are too girly. I mean, not all girls examine their nails every five minutes, nor do all girls stand like they should be working a corner in the Tenderloin. This problem is easily fixable, though, since you can swap out your own animations pretty simply. |

I have had good luck with the ZHAO. Same here... I use the ZHAO and I'm really happy with it. I like being able to switch between several anim sets if the mood strikes. _____________________

I wonder if people realize Wet Ikon and ZHAO are based on the exact same script. Main difference being ZHAO added support for the HUD. I agree ZHAO is great, it's what I use, but if the OP is having trouble with Wet Ikon, they are likely to have the same troubles with ZHAO. The basic functionality is identical. In fact, except for a few specialized AO, (Fa's Kitty AO being one I can think of offhand), All AO's are based on Francis Chung's original Franimation Script (and Wet Ikon is her packaged version of her script).

All I know is that my Wet Ikon wouldn't play my anims, and the DNA does. Whether it was variation in the script, errors in the notecards, whatever... I'm just happy to have something that works.

I switched from ZHAO to Wet Ikon yesterday, because of the enormous difference

The AO in HUD form does change how the script accepts commands. It is far more sim lag friendly to click than to say ao whatever, or /ao whatever.
Open listen scripts where you can simply type in your command are constantly parsing all chat within chat range. Some do set up their AOs to listen on a private channel such as /1, which is a bit better. All I use my AO HUD for is to click mine on & off so it stays minimized & takes up a teensy bit of my precious UI realestate. lol I'm still in 1024x768! I found the below example here Example: There are 7 people standing around speaking in a Role-Playing sim. All seven have weapons equipped–with public listens. Two are wearing collars with public listens. One is wearing a pair of shoes with a public listen. In total, we have 10 public listen scripts among 7 people. If those people go through, say, 10 lines of text in a minute (easily doable among 7 people)… …10 scripts process a ‘listen’ event 10 times… …that means an innocent conversation created 100 USELESS script events to fire, contributing significantly to sim script lag. Can you imagine how bad lag would get if there were an event on the sim? Say, a sparring tournament? 40 people = roughly 70 public listens * roughly 30 lines of script / minute = 2100 USELESS events per minute!!! *I am no scriptor & cannot vouche for the accuracy of the above example. But, from all the discussions I've read over time, sounds about right. ~ Pal |

Just wanted to say... THANK you, Francis Chung!
I've had it modified greatly for my stuff, but I cannot begin to think about how different SL would be without this one script. So... thank you. *grin* You may now resume the debate. _____________________

It's expensive, yeah, but nothing compares to the Huddles Deluxe. It does everything you could possibly want, and does it with ease. AO's? No problem. Multiple sets of AO's for different situations? No problem. Dances? No problem. That annoying problem of having to turn your AO off when you want to dance? No problem. Poofers? No problem. Item rezzing? No problem. Landmarks? No problem? Poses? No problem. Oh no, I'm stuck in this goofy animation cause I TP'ed while sitting down? No problem.
The versatility is just amazing. Huddles Deluxe! Get yours today! ![]() ps no I don't work for Keiki. _____________________

The free ZHAO option worked best for me. Lostdog is also based on ZHAO.
