I suspect the answer to this is either so simple I should have found it myself, or that there's no way of doing it.

Depending on my mood and what I'm doing, I like to have my rooms differently furnished, and with different rugs, pictures etc. At the moment if I want to change the content of a room, I have to remove each item individually and then rez each replacemtn item separately and reposition it exactly where I want it.

What I want to be able to do is to take all the furniture out in one go (which I could obviously do by linking the various pieces) and then put in all the new stuff exactly where I want it in one go. If I lnk the various pieces of furniture before removing them I can rez them all at once, but then have to adjust the position, either individually or as a linked set.

Is it possible to set things so they always appear in exactly the same place whenever i rez them?

Rather than linking, which would not be a good idea even if possible, you can select it all and "take." If you rez ithe group (when you want to furnish) in build mode those "taken" things will be selected as one thing and can be moved as such. When you de-select or forget and rez whilst not in build the objects are separate. Objects when taken retain their rotation and can be shifted easily into place.

The unlinked group taken while selected takes on the name of the last thing selected I believe.

Thanks, just tried it and its much easier. Dosn't put them in exact position, but as you say repositioning is easy.

Thanks again.

you could also drop some script in each item that saves their positions, and puts them back at those positions when re-rezzed...

There is a thing the name of which I forget (but I can find out for you) - holodeck or something - that allows you to store several arrangements of rooms and switch between them at a click. A friend of mine has one and it's impressive. There is a free demo version with a few preset rooms, a more expensive one that allows you to buy room sets, and the deluxe version that allows you to create your own rooms.

If all the items are copyable, there is a scripted gadget called an object rezzer that can be programmed to rez or remove suites of furnishings. You stick it somewhere in the room, and menu-select to remove the current suite or replace it with a new one.

I bought one of these but never really used it, as most of my furniture layouts include at least one no-copy scripted item. I'd be willing to sell it.

there is another object called "Room Minder". I have one of these myself. I will confess to not having actually used it yet (i like where everything is now), but i bought it for the features it advertised at a time when i was still considering the layout i wanted.

It is not some laggy temp on rez thing. it stores all your furniture and their locations, and can rez them in those locations. It has the ability to store different configurations and re-rez the furniture in those locations. If i remember right, the one drawback was that the furniture needed to have "copy" permission. If i remember right, i found my Room Minder on SL Exchange.

Won't 'Builders Buddy' do this, too? its a Free Auto-Rezzer used by many house builders...just never thought to use it for furniture! :)

Thanks for the suggestions. Some of my stuff is "no-copy" so I might not be able to use some of the gizmos. I was thinking of Builders Buddy for help when building, guess its even more useful if I can use it for the furniture thing as well.

Builder's BUddy will only work if you have mod rights to all the objects. It relies on you adding a script to each item, which you can't do without those rights. It is an awesome toold for moving and packing up builds though!
