Hi I have been looking at land to buy and want to locate near linden land that wont be sold... I have found 3 kinds of linden land near the land for sale... one says protected land , another says maintanence or empty and the third kind is no land at all just the end of the world... Which of those is most likely not to be sold in the future? I would have said protected land but my friend told me that he has seen that kind of linden land get sold...which linden land can be trusted most to last indefinately and not ever be sold? Does anyone know ?

There are no guarantees but Protected Land is your best choice. LL can change that status at their pleasure.
I've had protected land on three sides of me since I first bought land.......it's still protected.

I'd agree with Peggy on that one..stay clear of 'End of World' it'll probably turn into 'Beginning of the New World' tomorrow. I tried to ask the 'concierge' help (impressed huh ) but nobody was available..figures!!

I think maintanence is always just some piece of land that they've reclaimed for some reason - the owner didn't renew their premium, defaulted on tier, returned it to LL, etc.. These parcels are mostly likely to get sold to somebody.
If you're looking for one that won't get built on by anybody but LL themselves, protected is probably your best bet.

I agree with the general conclusions presented here: "protected" land is least likely to be changed (though it is possible and has happened), while empty/no land at all areas are simply areas not yet developed. "Maintenance" land, though, can vary. Sometimes a Linden simply called land "maintenance" that he probably meant to label "protected," while at other times land that is in the process of being transferred to a private owner will be labeled "maintenance." Take a look at any land labeled "maintenance;" if it is a new sim in an area where land is being auctioned, or if it is a parcel of land surrounded by other parcels owned by various residents, it will almost certainly be sold soon; but if it is a roadway, water channel, or runs in a strip along the ocean edge of a sim that has otherwise been parceled out and developed, you may probably safely consider it "protected."

i my self have wondered about this.
i surround three sides of a linden "maintenance" 512 plot that sits pretty much in the middle of the sim i own land on. it corresponds to the tp landing point of the sim.
i always wondered if it will ever be sold .. or will remain linden because of the landing point?
i've thought about contacting guy linden about it.. maybe i could buy it. but with my luck it would probably go up for auction for some exhorbitant price.

From: Egon Rothschild i my self have wondered about this.
i surround three sides of a linden "maintenance" 512 plot that sits pretty much in the middle of the sim i own land on. it corresponds to the tp landing point of the sim. For mainland, I think the landing point is always the landing point of the parcel that owns the 128, 128 spot. (edit: that is, the default slurl/map spot is the center of the sim at 128, 128 so if you don't tell it some other spot, that's where you'll go.) For 512's and up, they're going to want to do an auction. Upside is that land prices are down right now so you might get it for not-too-much. That and asking them to auction it means that you know when it goes to auction. Anybody can ask them to do it - if you ask, there's less chance that you'll come home one day to find that somebody else asked and that the land has already been auctioned...

thanks meade. maybe i'll bite the bullet and talk to guy linden. i was hoping it would remain linden's forever. the land immediately around it is pretty much "meadow" land with some trees. used mainly for primmage. still, i'd hate to see some mini-sears tower go up there some day.

I could be wrong (wont be the first time) ...
A few rules of thumb I go by are:
1. Turn on landowners feature under the VIEW tab, if the land is purple its on auction or is in the process of eventually being auctioned.
2. Alongside roads are a safer bet than most. (this gamble is permissible)
3. Various sims are water (surrounded by developed areas) and may remain linden land for a while to come, but never say never.
4. One way to guarantee water/beach is to buy an island that you can terraform the area to below the waterline. However, you will have to buy quite a chunk of land for that to look proper, I would suggest at least 4096.
I may edit this in the near future if there are other things I can think of to add.

Thanks everyone but to add to the confusion I have been told that some water land labled maintanence in the sim I have been looking in, nautilus is actually meant to be kept as protected water land and you dont know for sure which is or isnt going to stay protected, lol I wonder if they do it that way on purpose?
