Dumb Chat design

I recently re-installed the voice version of sl and I hate the chat box. It's too damn big, covers a good portion of the screen. This stupid chat box is way too big and ordinary and it crams everything in there. This is a very stupid design.

When it first came out they had a website for sl people to go give feedback on the voice system they were implementing. I recall the majority of the complaints were about the ridiculous size of it. But it seem those complaints fell on deaf ears. But this doesnt surprise me as Linden never listens to it's players.

OK, so I have it now but I keep hearing the sound effects cause by waterfalls as well as birds and everything else that makes noise. I tried reducing sounds as well as other features in the audio on preferences but it still too loud.

How can I reduce the sounds of waterfalls and birds and nature sounds while not lowering voice chat?

Thanks for any responses.

I miss the ability to mute objects using First Look. Green sprawl. Great. Every pregnant av. Every spamming object. Ever individual xcite anatomy part ... doesn't matter where you are ... green ... green ...

The Communicate window in the First Look Viewer will change substantially before release. Thanks for the feedback.
This has been on the JIRA for sometime now. Really ever since the Chatterbox was introduced on the voice beta grid. You can go to the JIRA website https://jira.secondlife.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa and vote on issue VWR-1076

I thought the same thign when I first started messing with it. THen I remembered you can tear off individual windows. I like to keep chat separate from IMs, so tearing off Chat works perfectly. (It's the little icon under the x to close the communication window)

It is somehow fitting that criticism of anything that has to do with the voice client falls on deaf ears.

What about the other sounds like waterfalls and bird sounds as well as the other nature sounds, how can I lower them without lowering the chat voice sounds coming from the person I'm chatting with?

I tried lowering "sounds" on prefrence but it doesn't do anything. Actually, I went thru each one of the different icons on the preference audio window lowering each one but I could still hear the waterfalls and other sounds very loud and they in turn drown out the person I'm talking to voice.

Anyone know how I can do this, please?

Thank you

This entire design chat box size, voice sounds and everything included is terrible. And these guys who made this are actually getting paid for this? Incredible. I'm sure there are many people in sl who would of done a way better job for a whole lot less. But that's Linden for you.

Music, Media, voice, sounds, ambient, Ui - all have their own sliders. I find them excellent to use to set up a nice sound atmosphere (not that I am aware of everything they control).

I'm also having this problem with the background sounds as the op. And I also tried moving the sliders but like him they don't take down the sounds. I turned down sound, ambience, UI and the rest but the background sounds are still there.

Before it was so easy to do this, now it's not and this is suppose to be a better system then the old one. Shows you how much they know.

I want to be able to turn off just the wind whistling in my ears but there is no individual slider for that.

Also, I couldn't figure out how to close individual IMs. There appears to be no tab like there is with the regular viewer.

I don't think there's anyone who likes the new chat box in teh voice viewer.

Actually, I wonder how hard (and popular) it would be to enable any window to be detached from teh SL viewer altogether and made into a separate window entirely, not just a subwindow within SL as it is now.
