Ok im having this issue and i cant seem to figure out what its doing.... I just built a new Escort Advertising Agency and have been trying to get it running... Well my that i had in it was going really well so i thought almost 1300. After the patch it seems that its going down daily first it was at 800 then 500 now 336 and finally 56 i dont understand it. Why would it be going down? Is it something that i can control? How do i reset the counter if there is one?
Thanks Exocet

Traffic patterns frequently fluxuate a lot during the Summer months. People are traveling with families, on vacations, doing stuff outdoors, mowing the yard, etc... Lots more activities to compete with SL.

Could be the recent influx of Colorado truckers who discovered they could make decent money typing porn to customers as long as they dressed up in hot girl suits. Placing their sisters pic in their 'first life' profile page was the clincher. They claim to make hundreds of dollars a week as a sideline gig, using WI FI access in Starbucks ect while out on the road driving big rigs cross country. This was exposed recently when one client requested his escort talk to him on the voicechat system. Tho the trucker tried to disguise his 'man voice' by speaking higher and with a distinct 'lilt' to his voice, the customer was not fooled and raised hell in the forum pages of another website. Or then again maybe porn chat wanking enthusiasts take the summer off

Why would it be going down? Is it something that i can control? How do i reset the counter if there is one? Traffic is fickle. I've heard some people complain of seemingly incorrect traffic numbers the past few weeks, but I personally haven't noticed anything really out-of-whack. I really don't recommend watching traffic numbers day after day, because they can vary wildly and drive you nuts if you put too much importance on it. To determine if your traffic numbers are misreported, set up a visitor counter that gives you daily statistics (I'm sure such things exist) and see whether the numbers remain consistent with traffic. Also note that traffic is not just about total number of visitors; it's about total time spent on your land, which is why campers and campbots are so common. Some things to keep in mind: We're in a slow time of year (numbers in my own public sim dropped significantly when American schools started letting out, but seem to have returned to normal levels since then), more people log in on weekends and holidays, and your placement in search results (both Places and Classifieds) has a big impact on how many people visit your land- but only the content you provide will keep people there any longer than a few seconds.

Another possible cause, I noticed the other day, is my search menu defaulted back to PG only - it was set to mature last weekend. A few months ago, Lindens set the default for search to PG and we had to manually tick the "mature" box. Looks like they've reset something in the background.

This happens with every client update, apparently. Some merchants blame poorer sales on it.

The 'newness' of a business makes traffic for it at times. You can't rest on your laurels. Find new ways to promote your business and keep it fresh. Offer your top customers discounts when they make successful referrals.

I thought this was fixed so you had both PG and mature as default! coco Edit: Never mind, I panicked too soon. I thought you meant that anything on mature land would be listed as mature, but it is not.

I have noticed a downturn in sales of my products - mostly budget houses. I used to sell a steady stream (boxed) from my main base and various 32m plots dotted around the grid. Then I sold most of the 32s, and, not surprisingly, sales reduced. But now I have a new chain of mini stalls on 64m plots selling the same goods as before plus more, but nothing is selling. I rely on passing trade so it's a bit hit and miss but I'm still surprised by the difference in business.

The grid is getting bigger and more people are going with the "play for free / pay ME to play" theory................................. The economy is brjorked, thousands of content creators/land barons expecting to earn $500US per week from the game but the remaining customer base refuse to contribute a cent to SL. We might as well start using freebie $100 prim notes for currency. Meanwhile LL encourage sales of cheap land that leeches you for 20% land value monthly tier...................

In law (North American, European including UK, Australia and New Zealand) there is a legal presumption of innocence until proven guilty. But innocence of guilt is NOT a legal defence against wrongdoing. There is a lot of questionable legal activity within Second Life. This ranges through from copy write theft of both the first and Second Life variety, gambling, pornography, virtual assault, and last but not least questionable financial services that are essentially Ponzi schemes. I think that a fair and reasonable legal system may accept a newcomer to Second Life may not only be unaware of such goings on, but also a non-participant. After all for example it is perfectly legal to virtually "kill" someone or something in WoW within the basis of a structured game, of which the average new person may think Second Life is. But until the worlds legal system catches up with virtual worlds and defines jurisdiction including that of emanate domain and taxation, it is rather risky to economically participate, or for that matter to devise a realistic first life business plan (if that is your objective within Second Life). Even the most purest of Second Life businesses, that of land trading and land/Island renting is vulnerable on the basis that an ISP/Data bank owner has a legal responsibility for content. Linden Labs do not help matters with what amounts to unviable tier fees. So it seems to me quite logical some people are not willing to spend "real money" within SL and may take what they can while the going is good Having said that it is also fair to say Island owners could shield their tenants from trouble by common sense covenents, although there is commercial risk due to Island tier fees

I think the courts will be too busy dealing with all the virtual war crimes and virtual genocides in games like Counterstrike to worry about anything but the most serious infringements in SL!!!!

Exocet, I wouldn't watch those stats too regularly. I would just do all I can to promote my business if I were you. In cyber-space there can sometimes be a rush of curious interest in something new, that slows after the curiousity is satisfied. Try promoting in world and out. That's what I do to promote my services. It seems to really drive traffic to me both in and out of world. I just created a message board to talk about and promote adult activity and ventures in SL. Just put it up this morning, and I'm already having visitors. No sign-ups or posters yet except me. Might be a good place for you to start out of world promoting. http://brandilundquist-chronicles.xboardz.com Hope you consider using it. Brandi...xxx

Just a thought, but when you were setting up your business I assume you were spending allot of time on your plot. You contribute to your own traffic stat so maybe that would explain why traffic was higher to start with. Has your time spent on the plot decreased since you have been monitoring traffic?
Overall, the traffic system is tempremental and isnt just a record of how many visitors you have, it's based on a variety of factors that even Stephen Hawking would have trouble fully grasping and sometime it just doesn't work properly. Maybe get a visitor counter so you can monitor the amount of visitors more effectively.
