Hi ppl: I'm the owner of a 4096sm land in a private estate (not mainland). I have also a group with other 3 friends, but only I have a premium account. There are any advantage to donate my land to the group? Or there are any advantage to donate tier to the group? And exactely what is the difference between the two things: donate land to a group or donate tier to a group?
Thanks, M2live

The advantage to donating tier to the group is that groups get a 10% tier bonus; so your free 512m2 tier becomes 560m2 tier for the group.
You have the flexibility of donating land, tier, or both; it really depends on your situation. If someone else in the group has the money, they might supply the land while you supply the tier. Or you might transfer a parcel to the group along with its tier.
The only real caveat is to make sure that if the group owns land, there are always at least two group members. Otherwise the group gets disbanded and Linden Labs seizes the land. (This is not fatal--you can usually get the land back through customer support--but why go through the hassle if you can avoid it?)

You also have the advantage in prim rezzing. Right now as sole owner, only you can rez prims unless you check the box that allows everyone to rez. The problem with that is that many new players don't understand that we have to pay $$$ for that land, and they come along and build on it (land squatters), or drop trash on it. This is where auto-return comes in handy, BUT your friends won't be able to rez (auto-returned).
Setting your land to group allows others in your group to rez and have the items stay put while preventing those that you do not want to rez things from doing so.
This also holds true with scripts and other land limits. If you set your land to no script, group members can still run scripts. If you set your land to no fly, [I'm not discussing the merits of any of this, pro or con] then group members can still fly. Group members can change the parcel music & video (handy if you have a club, so you don't have to be there all the time). In fact, group members can do almost everything you can do as land owner. NOTE: This depends on what rights the group owner gives them.
The downside of this is that certain objects do not work well on group land. For example, some security devices must be donated to the group in order to fully function. Also, assuming that you gave them rights, a group member could put your land up for sale, taking it away from you (it is imperitive group founders carefully check the rights & powers that they give the various roles).

Thanks, M2live Emphasis added. I'm fairly certain your free 512 is not being used on your owned land when the land you "own" is on a private estate and not mainland. Donating tier to the group will reduce the amount of tier paid to LL but I don't believe it will reduce your tier to your landlord. If you had enough people in your group donating their 512 "starter" tier, theoretically a whole mainland sim could be free of tier to everyone in the group. I could be wrong though, since I've never rented estate land. Don't spank me for *trying* to help. A

Donating tier to the group will only increase your billing if you already own mainland. If you do not own any mainland and donate 512m to your group, you should not be billed for it, even if the group purchases 512m2 of land. If you donate more than that, you will be billed for it up to the next level.

Thanks for your replies! If I have well understood, because my land is in a private estate, I haven't any advantage in donate land for a group.

From: M2life Paravane Thanks for your replies! If I have well understood, because my land is in a private estate, I haven't any advantage in donate land for a group. If you don't own any mainland, your "free" 512m2 tier is being wasted. Perhaps you could rent that tier to some other group.
