With Feb 17 close at hand and the new resident experience about to begin, there won't be a really easy way to talk about problems or strife. Which I think is a great part of this plan.
I believe deep down LL wants to boot all the older residents, the ones with knowledge and the ones who know how things really work in favor of droves of drooling nooblets in search of god knows what.
The fact they are being crammed into a detention center styled housing area should really tell you what LLhas planned. I dunno, it all looks like something really really big in a culture shift is about to happen and they know "talk" is something they need to control.
Axeing our two main forums would not have been so bad if the new flog didn't make such loud vacumming sounds.
As it is, LL will further divide into more "camps" as sort of balkinazation (spelling i know - don't care) until LL reaches its goal. Not clear what it is. But there has to be one.
the only thing I see a glimmer of hope and excitment was the discussion of SL reaching the singularity (yes I know that word, I love robots). And when It does I hope it fires a few people in SF. SL could be so much more. And DO NOT even get me started on that facebook pile of cow waste production. I will NEVER tie my two worlds together for some very very obvious reasons.
sigh....... that is all. later.
errrrrrrrrrr mm maybe not. x.X

I dunno, Ciera, Avatars United just seems to me to be a Facebook-like site that is for avatar identities not meatspace identities (although you can add that info if you want to). I didn't put anything other than date of birth.
The Linden housing is a way to get people to stick a toe in the water as far as SL living goes. It does compete a bit with current landlords, but I think the idea is that the digs are just interesting enough that a renter would be interested, yet certainly not ideal, and easily trumped by offerings by residents.

Drooling nooblets? I remember being a newbie once and I don't recall drooling at that stage.
I'm pretty sure that the level of knowledge among residents has not bearing on LL's business model or their bizarre decision-making process. Clearly, all of it motivated by revenue, which is their prerogative.
Considering the mind-boggling number of alternative forums for discussion available outside of LL's "control", limiting ways of how we communicate with each other is hardly something they'd waste their time with.
The sad part is that the value-add pieces they make available are impressive only to those who don't use them, or those who aren't used to better things. Your "drooling nooblets", perhaps, or investors who enjoy bling even if they don't quite understand what it does.

Could it be "My Chevy is better because it comes with prettier wheels than your Ford"? Is that going to change my mind about my Ford? Or my Toyota (inside or outside one of those models being recalled for the accelerator issue)?
It's all marketing. It's what LL feels it can do to increase their income. If it works they succeed......if not they need to do something else. Of course there is the second option to do nothing and let the chips fall where they may (which is a rather unsuccessful way of doing business, historically). My observations and experience with LL is that they are in the first category. And that irritates many users for some reason.

Actually, what Ciera said in this respect is not at all out of the realm of a legit decision made by LL. Older residents who've seen the trail of destruction are LL's biggest critics, and are most definately the most vocal ones. Removing the official avenues for that critism is a PR move, but not PR as it relates to the residents.. It's one that relates to "selling your product to others who may not have heard all the gory details of mismanagement/bad decisions". It's a very corporate mindset, and a superficial one at that. Public image, reguardless if it's truth or not, is what they intend to make initial sales on, and it goes hand in hand with the whole Zindra fiasco. The bad impression of LL that one gets from reading all these rants and horror truths, especially right on the SL domain name, may impact business, so it needs to be silenced... plain and simple. In LL's eyes, their "freshly rebuilt car" that they intend to sell still has a lot of bird shit on it that makes it look bad, and needs to be cleaned. The truth is more like a new coat of paint on an old junker, and we know that.. Joe corporate buyer doesn't yet, but he might if he reads all the history preserved here.
