Rezzing Objects and Folders

Hi all,

Had an interesting problem on Sunday. I had bought a table for two from Kitchen Korner, the package included a rug, a table, two place setings, food, wine, candle, cutlery, etc. After payment I received a folder containing all the above items.

When I got back to my place I was in doubt as to whether I should rezz the folder, or each object separately and place each item in its proper place. As doing it individually looked like being a time-consuming job (and I had a date coming over), I wondered if dragging the folder to the ground to rezz would produce a fully setup table. So I tried it. I heard the familiar sound when you rezz something, but there was nothing on the floor where I had dragged the folder to. I did a quick check in my inventory, and the folder was still there, but minus all its contents, except the cutlery! I checked Lost and Found, Objects, Recent Items, searched for individual objects in the inventory, all produced nil, the missing items were definitely gone from inventory, I also rezzed everything in the Lost and Found, in case they had been coalesced, but nothing.

As some of the objects, like the chairs, had scripted animations in them, and being a sim owner, I did a sim-wide scan for all scripts, and they did not show, I also scanned for all objects in sim owned by me, and again they did not show. So, not in my inventory, and not anywhere in the sim. A real puzzler. To complicate the matter further, I tried an experiment. I created a new folder, put a couple of freebie pieces of furniture in it, that had all permisions set, and tried to drag that folder to the ground, it would not let me!

The creator of the table for two kindly refunded my money when I explained the problem, but could not offer an explanation, but confirmed that I should have rezzed each object separately.

Any ideas anyone on what happened here, and where in the metaverse those items might be now? Can folders be rezzed or not?

Did you rez your folder on the ground (grass/earth/snow), or on a *floor*?

If you rezzed it inside your house, you might actually have wiped the contents of your folder under the carpet. Right-click and edit your floor, have a look under the "Contents" tab, and hopefully your furniture will be hiding in there.

A similar thing has been happening to me and no doubt countless of others... its a mixture of the asset server and the sim server you are on, not updating fast enough, coupled with packet loss, things just seem to go in limbo. You can try clearing your game cache, and rebooting your PC to help update your system directly from the LL servers. For the most part, things have a habbit of being returned within a hour or more to your lost and found folder..... but not always.

I didn't think you could actually rez a folder - unless it's something you're dragging onto your AV? I dunno where I read that...therefore, your mileage may vary.

Could I ask how you clear your game cache?

To answer the previous points, and answer SF's at the same time. I rezzed the folder on a 10 x 10 x 0.1 wooden platform, I moved the platform up and down just in case something was lurking within the woodwork. I also tried View Transparent objects. I cleared my cache (Edit, Preferences, Network), and rebooted, and zilch.

Today, 24 hours later, and another cache clearance and another reboot, and there is nothing in my Lost and Found. I shall pay a visit to 0,0,0 just in case, after reading another thread.

Lifting your platform isn't enough.

Right-click your platform, and select Edit. Go to the content tabs, wait for a while until you're sure everything's loaded. The content window should be empty. If it isn't, it means your furniture is INSIDE your platform.

If this is indeed the case, drag each box back into your inventory.

I am having a similar problem.

Tried to rez a bed in my skybox yesterday and got the message "unable to rez object".

The bed can not be found anywhere in the skybox or in any of my folders ie lost and found, objects etc. It would appear to have vanished into thin air!

Cleared the cache and it still hasnt reappeared?

Will try this 0,0,0 which has been mentioned in this thread and another. One question though, how do I get to 0,0,0?

You will find the no-copy items in the contents of the floor prim that you dragged them to! Edit that prim, and look at the contents tab. If it was a linked part of a house, it may be in the specific prim that you dragged to, or it may be in the root prim for the linkset.

When you drag a folder onto a prim, it assumes you want to pack the contents of the folder INSIDE the prim, like setting up a box for sale. If the items are no-copy, they disappear from your inventory and only exist inside the box. A script search won't find them, because the scripts are not running.

Many thanks Ceera, that is exactly where they were! That also explains why dragging a folder to the ground is inhibited.
