Still New to Second life, and enjoy the game, I Do have one comment, Everytime when second life gets an update it seems to be the same time, 7 till 12. Which is early in the morning in America But late in the afternoon in the UK? Can’t we swop it around for a change? So it’s early in the morning for us and late in the afternoon for them.
It’s the same with classes, All the great classes seem to start early in the mornings when all of us in the UK are fast asleep, When there is a class available, it’s normally boring. Is Second life time American time? Surely it should be more international, and not cater all the time in the favor of its American customers.

Don't worry, the grid is unstable, laggy and goes up and down the rest of the Wednesday for us US players.

Hi Cha, I've moved this to a forum where people can reply, the classified forum you posted this in origionaly was a no-reply forum.
I'm from the UK and can share your frustration, however there are good reasons for this on both counts.
As for the updates, Linden Lab is based in America, so the people performing the update (predictably) are on american time. It makes sence for it to be in the monring in america, so that if anything were to go wrong, they could fix it in the afternoon/evening. Rather than having to stay up all night fixing it, or leave it as it is overnight.
As for the classes, they're held by residents, so that all depends on what time zone the residents holding classes are in. However in my experience there are quite a few classes on a european time zone.
SLT (Second Life Time) is american time PST I think. 8 hours behind the UK.
Hope this helps!

It caters to the times when the lindens, who live in california, feel like sleeping. The classes are mostly run by us bloody yanks, if you wanna run a class than you can do i when everyone's asleep. Seriously though, it does suck, but these times aren't arbitrarily picked to inconvenience anyone, they are just the best times for the people who do um.

Well Cha, seeing as how its a US based operation, and they have jobs and lives too, its unlikely that they would probably shift their schedule for UK times. The simple answer, would be to sleep differently over there so you are awake when we are Spot of tea anyone ?

They come in at 7am too, which is not a civilised hour as far as I'm concerned, and anyone doing such a thing for our entertainment should be commended.
I've toyed with the idea of running scripting classes in UK time, but really, it's the whole "running classes" thing that rather puts me off - preparing lessons, all that sort of thing. I might be chairing some discussion groups at more amenable times as well. A lot of it depends on how much interest there is.

More classes in Uk time would be great, and i m sure there would be a great demand for them. As soon as I'm old enough will try and offer or start an english time zone school.

I've noticed that most classes take place when I'm asleep (19 month daughter allowing ) but I suppose that is because people running them are mainly American. We need more non-US people, or insomniac Americans, to run some.

LOL I hate Wednesday afternoons, but at least I can take care of a few things in RL. That's the theory: in practice I haunt the forums.
There are classes in the SL afternoon (evening for us Brits et al). Just give up your social life/telly, LOL. I'm always torn on Wednesday evening - do I rush to download the update (and see if it works), at 8.00 pm or do I watch The Bill? SL won today. Yes, I could record The Bill, but when would I watch it? I'm too busy in SL. Good job the grid isn't open until after Corrie. Poor old Fred. I SAY - poor old Fred.
There are some morning classes too: at 10.00 and 11.00 pm SLT (note - I recognise only SL time and not your Earth time of PDT/PST), that is, 6.00 and 7.00 am GMT/BST.

This has been suprizingly respectful compared to other threads stating the same thing issues. I've seen some nasty comments being flung at us for being upset that updates are always during our prime times.
There has been a few times when euro groups have attempted to band together to have interesting events when we can attend them, but I'm pretty sure not a lot attended because they don't ever last long.
I personally like how quiet it is when I'm online. Most other content creators I know either use alts to have a bit of quiet working time or don't get a lot done.
While it is understandable that the update days are done during the times they are, they could be played out a bit better, as in less often with longer testing times. That way if we do log in at 8pm GMT/BST to get online we'd have a better chance of actually enjoy it. Luckily some of the time the preview grid is up while the main grid is being updated so some of us can still get some work done, but that is unreliable.
What sorts of classes are you looking for? You have a few options that you can do. You can send some IMs to the various places that hold regular classes that might be able to start some euro ones. Or search around for information and tutorials for various things.
At least there are some things to do during our hours, but I will agree that usually the things I want to do are when I'm supposed to be asleep. Its getting better tho.

Is Second life time American time? Surely it should be more international, and not cater all the time in the favor of its American customers. I disagree. Classes are available around the clock, and some organizations (like NCI and Teazers) often put the same class on twice to cater for those in different timezones. I'm in the UK and didn't have any problem finding fundamental classes (building, scripting, etc.) in late afternoon/evening (GMT) back in May, and I suspect you have more choice now (the population has quadrupled at the very least since then). As for updates...once a fortnight now for five hours? It doesn't matter what time these updates are done, a significant proportion of people are going to be locked out at peak time, and I don't see why one group of people should be favoured over another. At least this way, LL performs its updates at a time of day when employees would be at work anyway, and which doesn't require a significant number of developers to be paid at double-time. So there's no risk those costs will be passed onto us. So no, no rota system for updates please. Besides, it didn't escape my attention that most of the recent grid attacks took place at peak American time when I was safely tucked up in bed. So there's a sense of smug satisfaction to be found there, for those Europeans requiring it.

I must concur. European players please don't think everything is "roses" on Wednesday update days for the Americans once the update is completed. It usually ends around 3pm my US time, convenient for me because its just before I come home from work. However, if there is a bug or the update is on shaky knees, there have been times when we've not gotten online and been able to stay on for 2-3 hours after the inital update ending time.
I also agree with the rest, it is based in the US, California, the employees of Linden Lab have to have reasonable hours to work, especially for the scale of updates and potential problems that may occur following the patches/updates. If it was based in the UK or other European areas, I would expect to ask the same questions that all of you do.

The update times are actually very convenient for Australians like me - here the regular Wednesday morning updates take place from 12 midnight to 7am Thursday morning
