ATI radeon x1650 Pro and Vista

With the Videocard mentioned in the Title and the newest catalyst drivers installed, Second Life will not work - It crashes on startup with no error messages at all.
I've been looking around for a couple of days now and not really been able to find anything conclusive that has been posted recently(Found some old fixes - but they are not viable anymore).

Basically I'm asking if this video card simply is an exception or if anyone can link to a fix of some kind. People with this videocard whom have experiences with either fixing it or still have the problem could probably help by posting here aswell.

The last I heard, SL doesn't support Vista.

SL works with Vista if you have Nvidia, but with ATI there is a problem - yoiu might post in Technical Issues to get people's input, and include your specs.

I have Vista running SL via an ATI X1700, which I think is just a slightly up-specced 1600 - (not a PC person so please don't kick me if I am wrong...), and it runs super-smooth.

Totally refused to work before the latest Catalyst release from ATI though. It is possible. I can run two clients at once NPs.

hmm i don´t get it why people use vista anyway. in my opinion an os update should make the os more efficient, not add tons of useless overhead. and it´s allways wise to wait until an update runs good and stable before using it

SL runs with Vista, but go back to XP. Performance will be vastly improved and it'll work

Definatly agree, Vista really is not a good OS ( why do you think Dell still sell XP ) at all, it's bloated ( makes XP look svelt and XP isn't the thinnest of OS's ), awkward and pointless.

The problem is that this is one of them new Pc's that can't install XP (thank you windows >,> )
So a solution to the problem is required really..

This isn't a XP vs Vista discussion.

It is a discussion about whether the OP's GPU can work on SL via a Vista OS. I have a dual boot PC and it is not an XP vs Vista issue - it is a GPU issue (and question).

I have that card X1650 pro 512mb AGP, but only run XP. I am afraid to install Vista because of the known problems. Even with XP, the Catalyst 7.5 drivers have problems, so I use 7.2. Maybe if there are earlier versions for Vista that you can find, they will work for you.

Problem solved and I can now testify that this card works with SL

I rolled back my ATI drivers after SL would crash upon closing... every freaking time. Which wouldn't have been a problem, but the game saves the 'they have done this, don't bring up the freaking blue screens' at the end of the closing. I'd had to install a new copy, since I thought at first it WAS SL causing it. It didn't stop until I rolled the drivers back. Sucks, but hey, it worked.

So, how did you fix yours?

Ires, please outline your fix so that others with the same problem can be helped.

Reinstalled Catalyst drivers and cleared cache - after that the whoe thing worked as it should from the start.
