Hi Sorry if this is a redundant thread but I did Search and found nothing conclusive...
Anyway, my question is this:
I have a parcel of land I would like to rent out, either as a unit or subdivided to multiple tenants. I don't know the first thing about renting out land. It's in the Tammora area.
Can someone start at the beginning and tell me how to actually assign the land to the renter once they agree, do people like land with a house or do they generally like empty land so they can build something themselves?, Etc.... I need specific landlord guidance - I don't know where to begin!
Thanks! Yirrk

There's several ways, mostly based around using groups.
The safest way is to create a group, then set (do *not* deed!) the land to the group. When someone rents the land, add them to the group and they will be able to build and edit objects there, but they will not get the other abilities that ordinarily a landowner would have. This is still enough for many purposes, though.
The alternative way is to create a group, and then *deed* the land to the group. When you add your renter to the group they will potentially get full landowner priveleges. But you need to be very careful with this - you do not *want* them to have *all* the landowner priveleges because that includes the ability to grab the land for themselves. So you need to set up a Role for them on the Group Info page that gives them only the priveleges you want them to have. This can be a bit tricky so if you are quite new I'd recommend just going for the "set to group" option.
As for renting blank land or houses it's basically up to you, they are two different markets from what I've seen. If you provide the houses then you can essentially landscape and design the whole area with the houses in it, which is good, because people will pay to live in a beautiful neighbourhood. It can also be very appealing to be looking after a little microcommunity, especially if you enjoy helping people like I do, because many new users will want to went pre-built houses. If you don't provide the houses then people have more freedom, which is essential for some people, but they might use that freedom in ways that you or others in the vicinity don't like.

Rental System

I bought a rental system from Hippotech (L$800). You can copy it for all parcels. It has a notecard with hints for landlords which explain everything. I can really recommend it. Violet
