Does anyone know why I keep getting the following message when trying to create an alt account?
"Linden Lab reserves the right to limit the number of Second Life accounts an individual may have. If you feel you've reached this message in error, please email customer support at support@lindenlab.com"
It states clearly in the knowledge base that there is no limit on alt accounts:
"How many alts may I have? Currently, you can create as many additional Basic or Premium accounts as you want to pay for. Previously, we limited accounts to 5 per household and 2 per payment method, but this is no longer the case."
I've tried to set an alt account 3 times and each time it fails I lose out on a well thought out name! Frustrating!

You're not the first, several people have posted about this. Apparently there is now some unadvertised '1 account per email adress' rule in effect.
Earlier someone reported that if you use your own name, birthdate, adress etc. and only use a different mail account, it is possible to create an account without resorting to fraud.

Come to think of it, limiting accounts to one per email address does make a bit more work for the griefer kiddies who keep creating new alts. It won't stop them, but it will slow them down.

One of the three times i tried, I did it the fraudulant way, not to avoid the 10 bucks, but because I was frustrated. It did go through, but then I never got the confirmation email... I suppose I iwll try doing it legit with a diff email account - if I can think of yet again another great name

That did the trick. I have my alt account now. Of course my name sucks, because I locked out my previous choices in my other attempts to acquire alts...
