I soon will be joining second life giving it a try, I just have a few questions:

Can anyone tell me what it is like running a shop or business? is it just like real life where you rent or purchase land and furniture, etc? Something I am keen on looking at.

Are you able to sell your products when you are not logged in or can you go away and still sell?

Does your quantity go down or are items easily duplicated?

What is night life like?

Sorry if I ask so much, I will probably have to learn the rest as I go like the rest of you.

Thanks in advance and hi :)

you will have to either get a premium membership and purchase land or rent it from someoe who deals in land rentals. Furniture you can build yourself or buy from furniture stores.

Your products can still sell when you are logged off, but you are only as good as your customer service and therefore checking in frequently to see if people have questions or problems with your products is important if you want to keep 'em coming back.

As long as you set your items to "sell copy" then you wont have quantity issues.

Because people are in SL from all over the world there is no "night life" per say. Most days you can find any number of events around the clock to attend whether it be parties, sales, gaming, casinos, dances, etc. There is plenty to do socially and for a wide variety of tastes be them mature or innocent.

Hope you enjoy!!!

Dante,
Do not forget to continue to innovate.

You might produce the absolute best... say a widget (for example). But as your sales go up, other producers will begin to make and sell widgets too, and try to undercut you. What will keep your consumers coming back to buy your widget is you continuing to innovate, by continuing to improve your product, making a better and better widget.

Yes, while having an extensive back catalogue is useful, it's rare that you can sit back and rely on the funds coming in from a product forever. Novelty is very important in SL, and people can always copy your ideas. Even the top designers have to make sure to release new items regularly.
