is there a way to go about pulling up the chat history since you have arrived here in SL or do you lose it each time you log out????

In the preferences, you have the option of enabling logging of your IM, chat or both on your pc.
However, I don't think you can recover past conversation prior to enabling this option.

In order to log your chats, you need to go to Edit Preferences - Communication. There you will find some tick boxes... you need to tick 'Log Chat' and 'Log Instant Messages' if you want to log both. there is a path listed for you to file your chat logs where you want them on hard drive.
If you havent done this previously, then the previous chats you have had are lost, sorry.
