Hi All,

I am a Public Relations student and I have a favour to ask experienced Marketers and Networker's in SL.

I am organising a project in the coming weeks to show SL newbies around SL and the opportunities that SL can provide.

I was hoping that some experienced Sl'ers would be interested in helping with the tour and answering some questions.

Is anyone interested? It could be an opportunity to sell your wares or find some new staff?

Cheers,

Hamish

We (WBA Advertising) would like to donate our Proximity Server System Technology to your cause. Its a media system that is capable of showing upto 7 seperate movie/music streams into a single parcel. The screens are 'smart' in that they only turn on a stream when an avatar comes into an adjustable range sensor, therefore perfect for a 'tour' route within a given parcel space.

The content you wish to show can also be supplied for you, hosted and streamed on our bespoke servers although this will attract a small fee. You are free to show your own created content, as the system is fully controllable by your group members.

We also have another system that is similar to the Proximity Server technology, that uses a SIM server, this controls smart screens sim wide irrespective of where the server is deeded within that sim. Both systems have enhancements including 'whiteboard' functions. We would need to speak to our partners before comitting to offer this system free of charge, as it uses 'off game' RL servers for control.

Please feel free to contact me ingame, so we can discuss how this may work for you.

Janor Slichter has been collecting places of note for his publication "List of the Very Cool". There might be good ideas there of places to keep in mind that might be worth introducing.

I'm a resident of Caledon. If you want someone who can introduce new people to particular interests, regions, etc., I'd be happy to be available in that regard.

My friend Noriko Tamura has a private island sim, so one of these should be on your itinerary, not just the mainland, and as hers has been described as the most beautiful sim in sl, even more of a reason to include it.

Let me know if you are interested and I will speak to her and fix it up.

I don't want to rain on the parade of the video streaming guys but seeing SL is best done by touring. And I for one don't like screens much..they take a long time to rez and IMHO they are more RL than SL. A video stream that comes in on a HUD and offers a guided tour with info on camera controls, and SL etiquette...that would be cool. Also when thing are bad in SL, lag, etc...the video is one of the things that degrades first. Just my $L2

The main reason you are suffering from lag problems in sl with movies, is two fold:

1) You don't have your system setup right.
2) The people resonsible for movies that do cause bad lag, haven't made them right.

Our movies play as soon as you arrive, they are one of the first things to rez and outpace texture downloads, even building prims. We target ALL our movies to under 100kbps (average is between 50-80kbps), thats just over a dialup specification!

If you follow these simple tips I posted sometime ago /111/1f/106305/2.html#post1373895/111/1f/106305/2.html#post1373895 you may find (when watching our movies and some others) that you do not experience the lag that has become a myth in SL over the years. Our servers are designesd to throttle the download to tight specifications.
