RPG style gaming communities in SL?

My "dream persistent world" has always been a combination I have never found, except in bits and pieces of various games. While I love sandbox games that don't have a predefined plan, and involve lots of creative crafting or modding, I do miss a bit hunting with my archer-style characters.

I remember running across one or two roleplaying style societies in Second Life when I was first bouncing around (in fact, I bought a bow that apparently does "damage" from one of them, though I wear it only as a type of nostalgia-accessory) and was hoping someone here might tip me off whether there is some group here that has already put together something that might help "fill out" Second Life for me.

The problem is, I don't think what I am looking for, may be possible:

I am not really comfortable with player-versus-player confrontations, which I suspect rules out most of the RPG style communities in SL. I'm not sure how you would use a bow in SL without other players as a target -- just hoping maybe someone has figured out a means.

I also like exploring large wildernesses, again something I guess hard to duplicate in SL unless you had a very rich person behind the group.

I am, sadly enough, not very social by nature and a bit of a solitary hermit, which rules out the "role playing" roleplaying groups that mostly like to do theatre-style chatting.

I did find at one stage an "Island Adventure Puzzle Game" sort of place (Numbskulla? Something like that), that was intriguing but not really what I was after either.

So -- I am 99% sure what I am looking for, doesn't exist. Or doesn't exist, yet.

But SL is a fairly big world, so maybe there is something out there that I missed. Or a group working to put something like this together.

And if there was such a thing, I figured you guys would be the ones to know. So I ask knowing it is unlikely.

But maybe possible?
