It's most likely your video drivers, and updating them should take care of it.
Check Nvidia.com or ATI.com for updated drivers depending on what kind of graphics adapter your computer has. _____________________

I hope it works. Windows 7 just arrived today. Yay! Free from the tyranny of Vista.

I've had no problems on 7. As said, get the latest video drivers. If you have Nvidia or ATI, go to the chipset maker's site to get the drivers, not Windows Update or the laptop seller's site.

I wish the lab would do some sort of sticky, public notice, or at least post something on the download page reminding people that the Micorosoft drivers supplied with Win7 will NOT work with SL. It would be a great help to the NUE, wouldn't y'all think? (=_=)

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Nvidia Driver 195.62 on a GTX-260 has worked perfectly, your mileage may vary if you have a different setup than mine. It was a new PC with only the OS installed by the local computer shop, so not having any unnecessary junk installed may be part of why its worked so well.
@Weston - You do realize that Vista was windows 6.0, and Windows 7 is actually version 6.1 if you look at version number? (6.1.7600.16385 to be exact). The core is the same, though they have had 3 years to clean up the bugs, make the interface smoother, and get hardware drivers updated. The first release of any new MS software tends to be buggy. XP took until SP3 to get really decent. Calling it Windows 7 is marketing, cause Vista got such a bad reputation (and it appears to have worked, its selling like hotcakes, it helps that it actually works well for most people) |

WHICH Microsoft drivers, Immy? And what do you replace them with? Windows 7 comes with Microsofts own Graphics Drivers, that are usually Ok for the normal Stuff... But to get the most out of your Graphics Card you should install the Drivers from the Manufacturers Homepage... e.g. www.nvidia.com or whatever chip you have ... |

WHICH Microsoft drivers, Immy? And what do you replace them with? Once that is done, Win7 really does wind up being the best choice for running SL. I've been doing in for well over a half-year now and personally see no reason to roll back to XP like I did back when I ran Vista. (^_^)y _____________________

If you install any Microsoft operating system and get all the MS critical and recommended updates (as you should for the critical part........the recommended are just that...recommended) Microsoft will install a driver supplied by the chipmaker (unless it's some not well known or used or off the wall chipmaker) that the chipmaker supplied or Microsoft included in the installation files. Those drivers are often months (even years) old......depending on how long the operating system has been released. Occassionally MS will update it's update data base with a newer driver version........but that doesn't happen often. That is the primary reason people have trouble with drivers and Win 7..........they are the chipmakers drivers but they are old. Also when Win 7 came out with the official release candidate, drivers where a big problem.....most did not work with SL no matter where you got them from. The chip makers have caught up since.
That's the main reason people have so much trouble with the drivers and Win 7 on a new system or newly upgraded system.......not "Microsoft" drivers. Microsoft does not make or create drivers for any video card. As with all operating systems, new, old, or newly upgraded, it's up the the user to get the drivers for their systems. When getting your updates from Windows Update the drivers will be in the optional section........take a look at those before you install them. It will save a lot of headache down the road. |

What kind of video card does it have?
It seems like it would be possible that it give the doesn't meet requirements message because it doesn't meet the requirements. _____________________

I'm just calling them the "Microsoft" drivers to simplify the description. Also, when looking at the driver information, the Driver Provider will be "Microsoft". While technically wrong, sticking with this name convention avoids confusion. (^_^)y

I'm just calling them the "Microsoft" drivers to simplify the description. Also, when looking at the driver information, the Driver Provider will be "Microsoft". While technically wrong, sticking with this name convention avoids confusion. (^_^)y It may avoid confusion for some but it introduces confusion for others. Microsoft develops no video drivers so there is no such thing as a Micorsoft driver for any video card manufacturered (I would go out on a limb and say Microsoft makes no drivers for any hardware device but I'm not certain on that......they may write some driver code for some common devices. I really doubt it but it's possible). By referring to drivers obtained through Microsoft's Windows Update site as Microsoft is saying that the drivers anyone gets at that site is a driver developed or written by Microsoft........that is a false statement. False statements lead to confusion. Leads some to believe drivers developed by a company that does not develop them. I agree that no one should get their drivers from any source other than the manufacturer of the device needing an update. And Microsoft is probably the worse place to get any driver. Two main reasons for that are (1) They are likely to be very much outdated (as much as years). (2) The method of installing the driver is not the correct way to install any driver (over writing the old driver is asking for corrupted driver and in the case of video drivers could, in extreme cases, cause your system to be unstable to the point of nearly unusable). There's nothing technically wrong with any driver you get from Microsoft (they are the same drivers that the manufacturers released at some time in the past on their own website).........it's the two reasons I mentioned why you should avoid getting drivers from Windows Update. Calling a can of Delmote green beans a can of Safeway (Von's since I believe you are in So. California like I am) green beans is wrong...........even though that can of green beans was provided to you by Safeway/Von's. |

Right, but, the drivers are re-branded. I never said that Microsoft wrote anything. Just that they're the Microsoft drivers. Any non-tech, non-programmer will look at the Device Manager properties and see the Driver Provider say "Microsoft" and identify it as such. This isn't a decision I made, it's one that Microsoft made. I don't see myself in a position to fight it. (T_T)
