i am wanting to host a contest for building but i am not sure how best to post or advertise for it

i want to offer a prize for the winners and have the contest duration be 1 week

Assuming you mean where in the forums, there is a forum for hosting contests, at Special Attractions .

You might want to create a forum signature announcing your contest using the "User CP " link toward the top left of the forums pages.
