Mebbe Resident Websites where a similarly linked post was moved today is the better place?
Anyway, a thought: would an influx of free or cheap cars actually be a good thing? Will small token carparks get jammed with them and the prim count escallate to raise lag to unacceptable levels? Heck! will sim owners start a congestion charge for admission? ![]() |

Sure there was 1200 for the island, but did they really spend several thousand more to content creators to make this junk? |

Actually, I really like the approach GM is taking. As opposed to previous companies (eg. Nissan is even mentioned in the article) that had mostly viewed SL as another ad venue, GM appears to be working to enhance the SL community and build up a car culture. The simple fact that they are encouraging modding their cars says a lot.

I've been to Nissan's site and got one of their cars. It doesn't handle as well as some of the "junkyard" freebie vehicles out there. The vending machine dispenser is really clever, though, and their sims are great for flying around in a light plane.
Didn't bother spending a buck on a Scion... my inventory is full of full perm vehicles as it is. These car companies need to give up trying to monetize their advertising, they'll get more effective advertising if they do. |

Well, I understand the marketing idea behind it. Look at Toyota: the SL customer will be aware that every possible customization can be purchased for the RL model as well. He might think: wow, this monster I just build - I could buy that in RL too, at the typically low price of japanese cars.
SL is supposed to be a geek haven. All those geeks either earn good money alreay, or will soon. Catch them where their defense against advertising is lowered... where they spend their free time, where product placement can entertain them. Well, that's the plan at least. They forgot that neither furries nor goreans have a need for a Scion ![]() I can see that it possibly hurts the SL car industry. But, as you said, there are enough cars as freebies around anyway. We can still sell what RL companies don't produce. |
