Chinese Second Life?

Looks almost exactly like Second Life, will the Chinese Goverment kill you though if you have Radical Idea's in-game?

HiPiHi openly admits it's similar to Second Life. They've studied SL and are probably still actively researching SL. They read this forum.........that I know because I've recieved an IM in world from a resident of SL inviting me to the website I'll link to at the end of this post. The only place I've ever mentioned HiPiHi has been in the forums..........the only way that person could possibly have known I was interested in other virtual worlds besides SL.

Go the the site, read the blogs, read the hype, read the projected plans..........it's impressive. You might also recognize some residents of SL posting on the blogs.......LOL.

It's potentially serious competition to Linden Labs. I'm on the mailing list.

It looks interesting and is in beta, I can sign up too even as a US Citizen.

I wish that uWorld and Shanda would get busy and release some betas of their allegedly in development virtual worlds, I've been reading about them over and over and over and not seeing any evidence they even exist.

As a note, China is very lax with their intellectual property laws, so you definitely won’t get the kind of protections that are here in SL.

Uh, I have a 24Mbps connection but it wants to download slower than a 56k dial-up modem. Guess I'll try again tomorrow. Interesting screenshot there. The avatar mesh looks borrowed...to an extent. Are the eyes drawn on the skin (al a Entropia) or do they move independently (as in SL)?

Doubtful. The freedoms we enjoy (and sometimes complain about the encroachment of others freedoms to grief us), are a uniquely American thing. The Chinese block out vast portions of the internet in an attempt to keep their people in the dark regarding freedom and democracy... as I sit here and worry about the continuing encroachment up my freedoms by our corrupt government.

Turn your back and shut your mind before you even know a thing about it? I'll check it out before I make such big, broad, and mostly conjectured statements.

Will it be like Second Life with it's openness? Probably not.......but who knows for sure. Will it be serious competition for SL like a think it might..........time will tell and we'll see. Some people just may be like me.........we spend time in these virtual things for the fun of it. Not to make some big political statement about corrupt governments (which is intirely an opinion and not some hard fact anyway). Not all of us want to have free sex. Not all of us are here to make our fortunes. For the people like me........HiPiHi could very well be a better place to accomplish what we are looking for.

And experiencing a different culture never hurts either.

In Chinese SL, the government owns all the land. Occasionally they will terraform large areas and forcibly relocate the residents of hundreds of sims. Solitary griefers are shot in the back of the head and perma-banned. Groups of griefers are first run over with tanks.

I foresee a demonstration in hipihiananmen square.

I managed to get the templates and found it easy to transfer my SL clothing designs across with very minor tweaking.

The installation file download speed for me from the Hiphi site has been about 4 Kbps, and I've heard others with the same speed, although I have heard of normal results from one English speaker. I'm not sure what part of the world they were in, though.

4 KBps, in case that doesn't quite register at first, is what is known in technical terms as INCREDIBLY MINDNUMBINGLY SLOW. So slow it makes you type in all caps.

You should be able to find the download file if you have the Shareaza filesharing program, it's the Hipihi_world_30012.rar file (not the exe file, that was an earlier version).

I am attempting to use the Azureus BitTorrent program to share this but I don't really know what I doing. I've got the file in a state of "1st priority" and "forced seeding" but I don't think there's anything for it to do until someone looks for it.

Since I aint in it for the sexual stuff, I might try it out once it comes along a little more. If it's even half as annoying as SL can be, but still at least 75% as innovative, then I'm there.

Allright you've convinced me. I've been looking at the screenshots and it looks a lot like SL.

I just came looking for this thread, so only just realized SuezanneC had been so helpful. Would just like to say thanks for uploading the file. I gave up the other night when I realised I'd be waiting about 24 hours. I'll have this within ten minutes and then I'm off to bed, but I'll certainly be trying out hipihi tomorrow.

There is a forum web site listed in the OP that has info addressing this issue. Sad to say I couldn't get it to run either following the reccmendations.
