I am trying to setup IceCast on a windows XP professional. It is installed and I am trying to configure it. Everything should ideally be running on the same machine.

I want to implement a "broadcast to everyone" version that plays back what I am playing on my machine. I want it to go to everyone in my local network and everyone who logs into my IP. (Still need to figure how to open the port on my router)

The description says it is possible but the documentation on how to configure it is obscure.

I have figured out that I need something to do with the mountpoints, but my mind begins to boggle.

Does anyone have a configure file appropriate? Advice?

Won't ask about shoutcast yet... :)

DolphPun,

Several issues:

Opening a port involves your firewall or router. You will need to consult any documentation to see how to open a port for icecast.

How fast is your internet connection upload speed? Most DSL lines will only be able to handle about 2-3 people connected to your stream before using up all your upstream bandwidth. If you have Cable, maybe more, I'm not sure.

If you want more people than that to listen, you will need a icecast server. Google icecast server and you should find many places that will hook you up with a server. I use shoutcast, and it is ridiculously easy to set up.

Hi DolphPun,

IceCast is more complex to setup, but does offer some great features. Do you require IceCast for a certain piece of software you are using? As Max says you may find shoutcast easier to setup on the server side of things to start with.

You may like to check the appendix C on the manual for icecast here http://www.gnuware.com/icecast/ as there are some sample configurations.

Max makes a good point about connections, unless you have a reasonable upload connection you may struggle when it comes to the number of listeners that can connect.

If you need an external IceCast server to stream to instead of hosting it locally just send me an IM inworld or you might like to visit my store out.
