Starax

Hi All,

This question is more for the residents who've been around awhile. I am very curious to know, what happened to 'Starax' the artist?

I recently saw a video of a show in which his amazing sculptures were featured, and read a bio. I've heard his sculptures are a hot comodity in-world.

So...I am wondering why he's not around anymore? Did he leave SL for the usual reasons, or...?

Starax has reportedly left SL, however, there is a strong suspicion that he is still here under an alternate name

All I know is that I have a friend that has one of his magic wands that I covet every time she brings it out

One day, he was just gone. No one really knows what happened to him. He was a great builder, and his work still lives on.

I think it's one of those things where the mystery is more enjoyable than the truth.

Starax is still here as an alt. He even explained his reasons for leaving in a thread someone started about him here. Out of respect for his privacy though, I'll leave it at that.

He did great work. I saw a Starax wand demonstrated for the first time a couple weeks ago, and it's clearly one of the most impressive things I've ever seen here.

I'd give my eye teeth to meet Starax. I dabble in the arts myself RL and always enjoyed his work. It was out of my price range when I first came here so now I actually practice a sin...coveting people who own his fantastic work.

According to the US Air Force, he was abducted by aliens.

Massive prim heavy sculptures crafted from a blend of imagination and wonder. I own several of his works. His wand would give you dozens of these in temporarilly rezzed form. One of the coolest items and one of the most expensive. I still whip it out once in awhile to amuse guests. Starax had some issues with SL and threw himself over the rails, and according to him, took all his stuff with him never to be sold again. To which I replied, " Damn, I wanted one of those lightning zapped pegasus statues". I spoke with him a few months back, and was privalaged to be given some of his latest works, some of the best stuff Ive seen. Starax is a very humble private person, so I do not know if he will jump into the limelight again anytime soon. He is most assuredly a true master of the crafts of SL, and I am honored to have met his aquaintance.

It was a sad day when he left... he was one of the best. I never could afford the wand, but I do have his giant cobra. It's a gorgeous piece. If I'd known he was going to leave, I would have bought his Cthulhu. Wherever he is, I hope he's happier now-- he deserves it.

I only own 1 thing by him. A Very Shiny Werewolf avatar. I keep it as a memento that i will never be able to buy a wand.

I believe that something to do with this was the fact that just after an update a few version back, his wand started rezzing items with full perms. As a result, several of them were being given out as freebies. I'm sure I've seen a flexi-prim tornado with Starax's name on it being given out in some places, for instance.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I wish I had joined SL sooner so that I may have had the opportunity to see more of his work. At least now some of the mystery is peeled away for me.

I jes was visiting the SL Louvre last night with my mommy an daddy, an was impressed all over again by his works. There *are* other good artists in SL, but his work was - is - the standard to aspire to. Sorta SL's old master.

I wish I could control a prim with jes half his skill.

The other day a friend of mine was looking for a piccie of Starax, an I realized that his art outshadowed the man. Does such a thing exist?

Beautiful, inspirational sculptures. His art is one of the few reasons I stick around SL, learning how to build and hoping I can someday do something anywhere near half as impressive as Starax's stuff.

Not to offend anyone with their malls and rentals and such but, to me, his art is a big part of what makes SL unique. There's not enough of this kind of stuff in the SL world. And not enough of us who know what it's about or where it's even located.

Anybody looking to sell a Starax original sculpture for a reasonable price? Contact me in-game and we'll negotiate something. Seriously. I'll treat it with respect it deserves.

Somebody should start a museum.

I love his work and have quite a few items and the wand. I get in trouble with the wand at times, Buffalo, Tsunamis, Trains...lol..my favorite is heaven though...you rez a gallows and when you click it you go to a huge black tunnel in the sky that leads to a light, in that room...well have someone rez it for ya
