On the main map or the mini-map?

The main map can be out of date by a few seconds or a few minutes, even as far as the avatar dots. So if you see lots of green dots on the map but they're gone when you get there, it might be the map out of date. It is also quite possible the people are all at a sky-build a few hundred meters above you.

On the mini-map, you can see if they are above or below you -- people above you are green T's and people below you are green upside-down T's. People more or less at the same altitude are dots.

Holy Moly! I've been an SL citizen for 10 months and never knew about the upside down T versus the right side up T. Learn something new and you teach a man to fish. Or something like that.

Ladda, how far up did you go?

You can build (easily anyway) at above 700 meters. A lot of people build their homes/stores/work areas that high to avoid the crowds.

If you were flying with no assistance, with no plane or special wings or something, that means you could go up no higher than about 50 meters (I think). The people could have been more than 600 meters higher than you were flying.

Hmm that is wierd then. The only thing I can suggest is perhaps you didn't fly high enough? Buildings in SL can go as high as 768 meters I believe. Unassisted flying will only get you to about 200 or 250 meters.

Does this happen in many different locations, or is it just one particular spot that you have found this effect?

If it is just one spot I'm inclined to say there must be a very high build that they're at. If you get this in a lot of places... it could be a bug or a problem but that's getting beyond my limited knowledge.

Wow, Atashi and I were typing at the same time.

Yes, I forgot that you can fly a lot higher than 50 meters, it's just that you start to fall again as soon as you stop pushing the up key above 50 meters. I could still be wrong, though. :)

You beat me to it though Drekaina! :-)

I've almost always got a Flight Assist on nowadays so I don't even think about the height limit any more. I'll even go so far as to plug the product - the Mysti-Tool by Mystical Cookie. You can get the freebie version for L$1 and it rocks out loud, or the full version is about L$350 and rocks even louder. No affiliation, just a very satisfied customer.

Actually, the limit for unaided flight is about 200m, or just at cloudtop level.
