I know this is a totally noob question.. but I cant figure out how to create an alternate account.. can anyone help me out here with some instructions.. they tell you it costs a few bucks.. but I didnt see anywhere to actually create one.. I went to create a new basic account.. but it didnt ask me anywhere if this was a second account or anything.. so I now have a second basic free account.. I wanted an alternate account. ( 10 bucks?) Can some one please help me? thanks in advance for any info.

Ummm..an alternate account is just that; an 'alternate' account. There's no such thing as a specific account type called an Alternate Account. It can be any type you like. I wouldn't pay for an additional account..I'd just create another free/basic one. Unless you want another Premium account alt. So basically, an 'alt' account is just another account that you happen to own. They can be used for different things. Sometimes if people role play, they want a separate AV just for that purpose, to keep the story and their normal SL experience apart. Or one might be for building..maybe one is an escort or a model, and of course, griefers use alts.
EDIT: Also, if you sign up a few accounts with the same email, or using your payment info too, I think, even if you select 'free,' and tick the option that this is your first account, it may charge you the $10. So you might want to use another email or wait until the character is created to add payment info. But you CAN have a few free alts, I just don't remember what the number is before they start to charge, if it's with the same email.

LL broke the 'official' method of creating alts. After much debate on the subject the conclusion was to create a basic account as you have done, using a unique email address. If you have suceeded Blayd, in creating an alt using the same email address all well and good but not important. The important factor is, that you *can* register payment info. I gather from reports even acknowledging that this is an additional account and you are willing to pay the 10$ that LL actually don't get around to doing it. In essence then as Shadow points out, an alternate account is merely a totally separate account that *might* have duplicate payment details.

created 1 aswell last week but with all the alts getting closed, decided to ask ll and make sure they know it`s on my account, this was the reply i got: All accounts in Second Life are considered independent. You shouldn't have any problems with this second account. Enjoy! so ur free to create a new account as they can`t be linked like befor, i`ll bet they know it`s u nway  |

Just one caveat: be truthful when setting up an alt. Using a different email account is okay (and, from experience, recommended), using a different name is not. Lindens should not close legitimate second (or third) accounts (though sometimes mistakes are made) but they *will* close any account they discover has been set up using fraudulent RL info.
