How do I find buried objects?

I can see my buried stuff using wire frame mode, but can't grab them.
Any way to do that? Or at least delete the objects?

select Cntrl+Alt+Shift+D to open the debug menu.
Then select, Client/Rendering/Types/Surface Patch.
This will make the 'ground' disappear enabling you to grab your objects

Client Rendering Types Surface Patch should turn off the terrain display so you can see.

Do Tools Select Only My Objects, then press Ctrl-3 for edit mode, and drag select around the object, make sure you have only the object you want to get rid of selected, and delete, or move it up to the surface so you can scowl and curse at it a bit before you delete it.

If you really despise the object you could try to figure a way to launch it into Second Life's enormous sun, which should destroy it much more thoroughly than a simple deletion. Perhaps if enough objects were launched into the SL sun it would collapse under it's own gravity and become a black hole. That sounds nice.

That would be highly amusing, but would spell certain doom for us all, as well as ending Rhombic's treasure hunt before he could say "arrr matey shiver me timbers"
