Hi I've been looking around the forum and main site for information on this but so far I haven't found a direct answer. I hope this is the right place to post about it. Infact everyone who reads this thread is probably going to wet themselves laughing at my naivety but I would much rather be safe than sorry. When you partner with another resident, are you subjecting yourself to any kind of legal contract? Or is it really just a name in a box that costs money? Thanks, and sorry for the noobish question. I'm learning... slowly. Elias

Being someone's Partner in SL is no more 'legally binding' than two kids putting plastic rings on each other's fingers and declaring that they are "married". It's just one more bit of playing "let's pretend", allowing us to show others that there is someone in SL that we feel special about.

Its a good idea to assume any partnership in SL is temporary as well - And not tie up your possessions and land, etc.
*shudders to think how much the waterfront property I bought and my Ex kept is worth today*

Yeah I have heard of people having partnerships and losing items they bought and shared with otther partner. Best to be careful.

That would be kind of funny if partnerships ending in divorce resulted in prim baby custody battles along with inventories and Linden dollars being divided up. lol

I wonder if there's any money to be made in opening a divorce court? But to the OP, there's no legally binding contract involved in partnering with someone. But there are dangers, particulary if you form a group with your partner for the purpose of owning land or furniture or prim babies or whatever. Simply put, Grouping with someone should only be done with the recognition that the other member(s) of your group can kick you out, sell up, and take all the money for themselves--and LL has made it very clear (rightly so) that in such cases, they sympathize, but you're on your own. Just be happy, and BE CAREFUL. Kam
