Hi,
I have reached the prim limit on my Skypod, so when I want to throw a party with a bar and other nice party prims I have to remove some existing prims first.
I have a pool at the side of the pod, all fitted up with loungers, floats, parasols etc. Is there anyway of selecting the whole of the pool and its other objects, saving them to Inventory, then after a party putting it all back again with everything in place?
Right now it takes over an hour to manually put back each object in the positions I first had them.
Thanks in advance, as always

Rock Yes there is Rock but it depends on where your prims are in relation to each other and if they are linked or not. If you can link the prims together (that form a subset of prims) you can then rename that subset "Pool" for example and take it back into your inventory as one complet linked object that may contain anything up to hundreds of prims. You can then re rez it out of your directory as and when you need to. It takes a little practice to link prims together and there can sometimes be issues in linking physical and non physical prims together (such as water). There are also grid rules that dictate the max distance of one linked prim from another. The knowledge base on this website is a good place to start. Do a search on link http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/search.php?query=link&submit=GoThe above link may assist you, good luck Regards John

If you can adjust your camera view to where you have all the desired objects in view, you can open the build menu, then drag select all the items with your mouse. They will highlight. When you're sure you have all the items selected (this can be tricky, especially in laggy conditions, so it may take more than one try) you right click the whole selected group and choose "take". They will be taken into your menu as "one" item, and will show the name of one of the items you just picked as the name of the whole set in your inventory, but when you place it back out, all the items will still be there. (I am unsure as to how the system decides which item name is used)
This is a good way to pick up mixed groups of items which have different permissions enabled because many times you can't (or don't wan't to) link everything up. It is also a good work around for link limit distance issues.
One bit of advice for when you pull a grouped item back out of your inventory - if you wish to be able to move it around as one set after you re-rezz it, make sure you have the build window open when you drag it out - this will allow you to move position all the pieces together. Otherwise, you will have to manually adjust all items, which can be a pain if you want to maintain the original positional relationships.

Another way to do this is just to hold down Shift as you select the items you want to pick back up one at a time, then right click any of them and take them back into your inventory. However, once you do this, in your inventory it will look like you only picked up one item (only the last item you selected will be listed). Don't be worried, they will all rez again in the locations they were proportionately when you rez them again - probably the best way is to make sure your Edit window is open before you rez them back out so that they'll all be selected. That way you can move all of them at once and put the selected group back in place pretty quickly. You might want to practice this with maybe three items first before your next party.

I've used multi select to delete/return/move, but didn't realise you could take into inv that way; you learn something new every day! Can you use this on objects that are seperated by more than max linking distance?

Can you use this on objects that are seperated by more than max linking distance? Absolutely. I have one of my prefabs set up this way because it's too big to link all together and I keep fubaring the Rez Foo. Just right click > edit an object, then hold down shift and keep clicking the objects you want to select/take into inventory. Once they're all selected, right click any of them again and choose Take. Booya, they're in your inventory (but only listed as one object). If you're going for objects that have a lot of space in between them, bring up your debug menu (ctrl-alt-shift-D) and make sure Limit Select Distance is unchecked, then turn on Disable Camera Constraints. Again I highly recommend being in edit mode when you rerez your grouped objects that you took into inventory, so that way they're all selected at once when they rez and you can move them to the right position.

I have always had and never needed more then a 512 lot. I have multiple builds, multiple gardens I use on that lot depending on mood. I just use rez-fauz. Click it and derez one set of objects. Touch another and rez a different set of objects.

My patent skypod is too big to be fully linked as a single object, so I built in in two halves. I can highlight and then 'take' the whole thing to inventory, so it can be rezzed as one in world. But a slip or oversight can result in the two halves parting company.
A problem in the sandboxes with highlighting a large object is that the rectangle often takes in a bit of debris like a little cube or cone left nearby by another person, which makes linking by highlight difficult or impossible.

Try this - go to Tools -> Select Only My Objects. You won't grab anyone else's items when you drag-select.
