I remember reading some time ago that there was a way to determine which other sims reside on your own sim's physical server. I can't find that information now and am wondering if anyone can point me to that site or post or whatever. Here's why: Beginning two days ago my public sim began having terrible lag spikes- we're talking 0 sim FPS. We have ruled out griefing- build is off and I even closed the island to only group members as a test (sent everyone else home)- and we still had the issues. I found a great article on interpreting sim time statistics ( here), and it explained that Total Frame Time should generally be under 23.0 ms or lag will be noticeable. When I've been experiencing lag, this stat goes from around 22.0 to between 300 and 5000ms!!! The article also said that Net Time (time spent communicating with other servers and clients) and Images Time (time processing and transferring textures) are kind of out of your personal control, in the sense that users with slow broadband connections can supposedly drag down a sim's performance, and lots of texture activity on OTHER SIMS can drag down everyone else who's running on the same physical server. Well anyway, I've been watching the numbers all morning, and when my sim begins lagging crazy, both Net Time and Images Time shoot through the roof. I have actually reduced both prims and scripts by 1000 and removed all of the highest script-time consumers in my sim during this period. Script performance is consistent during these lag spikes, and like I said, it even happens when I'm the only person in the sim. I think that maybe a sim I'm colocated with is getting griefed or has installed some superlaggy stuff and is dragging everyone else on the box with it. But I need to find out who they are and investigate to be sure. Please help!

I don't have the answer (no way am I techie enough), but have you submitted a Suport Ticket under the tech help section? They might be able to give you the answer (yes, there are a few Lindens there even on the weekends now).
Also, since you own an island, you should have concerage (sp?) privlages. Start up a Live Chat through the Support portal and ask if that Linden(s) know how to tell, or can help with possibly switching your island to a different physical server.
Good luck. ~Jessy

Yes it was Maxcases site, if you want to be able to see the maps though you will need something other than MS explorer7.0, probably for the same reason the landstore map doesnt work with IE7 either.

Thank you, that Max Case site was exactly what I needed. And it seems I was right: According to the site, my sim's host number (I think this means the physical server) changed two days ago. This is when the superlag began. This change also caused Max's site to get a little out of date (it tries to update stats every day), so I jumped in-world to help refresh his stats by wearing the registratortron thing you can get on his land.
After wearing that in my sim and all its neighbors as reported on the site, I learned that my host apparently changed AGAIN today. On top of that, it's sharing a server with three mainland sims (mine is an island), and all of them were experincing single-digit server FPS when I was there. Two of these sims are obvious camping sites.

So basically, my healthy sim got moved to a server with at least two sick sims, and is now suffering for it. I am definitely filing a ticket now.

If a sim crashes and can't come back up on the same server right away, it automatically gets moved on a spare server to keep the amount of downtime at a minimum.
There is no link between a sim and the server it runs on, and your "neighbours" will change depending on how frequently they (or you) crash.

Funny thing is until the lag started my sim was crashing several times a day (another thread). That has stopped now, but I'd honestly take a daily crash over this.

It would be nice if there was a Registrator-Tron in every sim to keep the MaxCase information up-to-date, but unfortunately, that is not the case.
Currently, on MaxCase, my north mainland sim shows it is not shared with any other sim on a server, which is either true (unlikely) or simply means the other sims it shares with have not been registered.
MaxCase is wonderful idea, perhaps an incentive should be given when somebody registers a new sim to its database or agrees to install the updater on their territory? I would certainly donate to that cause! Or, with all the different *BOTS, certainly someone could write a Registrator-Tron-BOT.

Actually, I was going to do just that- in fact I was going to force-crash it in case that had any effect on whether we move servers- but the sim crashed on its own anyway. (Grrr!) But as a result, it DID end up on a different server and hasn't lagged out ONCE since then. That was totally the problem (stuck with 3 lagging mainland sims), and I'm so glad I understand how to get around it now. Thanks, all! (NOW to figure out why the sim's crashing again...)
