Hi!

I experienced SL some time ago. There were many things I liked, but never really immersed myself into learned how to build, so on and so forth. Anyway, SL was a nice distraction to my busy RL; so I thought I would check it out again. My experience was nowhere near as nice as the first time, mainly for technical reasons. So I thought I would get some feedback.

I have a cable modem with Time Warner that goes rather fast. For example, in World of Warcraft I have never had any issues. I download large media files in my biz life quickly, without any issues. But in SL, I barely have a connection? I got dropped twice, the lag is really bad. One thing I wondered is this; would the fact my Mac is connected to my cable modem via a 15ft LAN cord effective SL performance? Meaning, is I had my Mac on a shorter LAN would it help? I am rather frustrated on this point.

Finally, I had read about all the huge growth in SL. But it seemed much hard to use things like the search function to find quality skins, so on and so forth.

Anyway- thanks for the help!

Welcome back to SL, Dak!

No. Your hardwire cable length won't matter. Unless there's a break in the wire somewhere, (highly unlikely), then it is NOT in the wiring between your computer and the cable modem/router.

The fact that you can play WoW indicates the problem is elsewhere.

I suggest that for Mac help you post a question to the MAC TECHNICAL issues forum. Be sure to indicate your model, memory amount, and OS version.

The 'search' ability in SecondLife has been unable to keep up with the explosive growth in the number of users. The Lindens are rewriting it. Meantime, try careful selection of search keywords, such as 'skin' in the ALL tab of search. You'll get a lot of results...maybe too many.

I often shop for things to buy at www.slexchange.com or www.slboutique.com Both are web based 'catalogs' of items for sale in world. You can buy directly from the web, or just note who's selling what you're interested in, and then visit their store in world.
