Lag and being blocked
05-02-2007 19:09
It happened to me too. Here's the scoop: When you have lag, you cannot see what your avitar is doing. Meanwhile (correct me if I'm wrong) you are pounding at the keys to make your avvie move. Well, as you press keys, your commands are transmitted to the grid, and your avitar is responding even though YOU cannot see it. You are bumping into objects, or worse, other avitars. Doing this alerts Linden Central, and when you log off, you get an administrative block (done by the software, not a person). Usually it's only for a couple of minutes, but could be over an hour.
This happened to me in a crowded place, a formal dance. It is likely that my sweet innocent avvie was plowing couples left and right on that elegant dance floor! When in crowded places, especially if you can't see your avitar move, stop pressing keys! Wait for the computer to catch up to the Linden transmissions to you, or better yet, move to a place that is not so crowded. Hope this helps. |

This problem is becoming more frequent, but is almost always temporary. From my experience with it, it is caused by the server trying to catch up with itself or your cache. It always happens to me when there is extreme lag or if I crash. It is almost always for 5 minutes. Many people have reported that if they try to log in anyways, they can usually get in on the 3rd try despite what the error says.

I don't recall seeing that idea before. I don't think that's what's happening. Perhaps someone else can shed some light on this idea. _____________________

This has happened to me many times before but never like this. Usually I have the set 5 mins and I can log back in. This time its every 5 mins for the last 45 mins. Almost embarrassed to admit I have been trying that long lol. Definitely not the normal lock out ya get from time to time. It just repeats. My character is still in game along with another friend who tested it to see if it wasn't just me. Its not, soooooo...don't log, deal with the lag

Me too...today my avatar was logged in and stuck for about an hour. I IM'ed a friend on Yahoo! Messenger, and he said my avatar was appearing as online. Attempts to IM my avatar were futile. It seems to have logged out now,,,finally..let's see if i can get in.

The reason is simple, actually. When you logged off, for whatever reason, the sim did not get the message. When you logged back on, it thought you were still logged in. This triggers the "can't log in for 5 minutes", which gives sims a chance to time out and get rid of your avatar's ghosts, avoiding dopplegangers and other issues. (OK, I'm just kidding about the dopplegangers.)
It sure is a nuisance. Sometimes I find that if I log into a different sim it allows it. |

Ms Obscure, the best solution to your problem is, if you can find someone with the authority for that parcel, have them boot you off. Or so I've heard. Of course, it's hard to get hold of people when you can't log in ...
You can try the Send-IM feature at http://www.apez.biz but note that you have to visit an apez terminal inworld before you can do this. |

A cheeky remedy suggestion I saw a day or two back is;
login an alt, IM your first character. This kicks the server into realising your first is in fact offline and resets. Re-log first account ![]() anyone actually proved this yet? |

Re-log first account ![]() anyone actually proved this yet? I'd say it works half of the time. Last night may have been an exception. I haven't tried having a land owner booting me off when I'm zombified. I did send myself an add friend request...even though my alt was already friends with me, a bunch of IM's, some notecards, a landmark, a box, and some other things. None of these things showed up when the sim finally released my name. |
