well if you want to open a club you will need to start by investing some money and tim, get some land, get some builders, or build it yourself, you will probably need a music stream, some event hosts, prizes (optional) and umm yeah that will keep you buys for awhile hehe...
Oh and welcome to SL! :)

I'd echo everything that Sensual reccomended, and add one big thing:

Remember, anyone can build four walls and make a 'club'. But the most successful establishements build a community. Keep that in the back of your mind as you go, and I'm sure your endevours will be successful :)

The following is just my opinion..but..:-)

I'd buy land that is closer to other businesses. One...it will draw more people in that way. Two...(and this my opinion) people who live in quiet residential areas/sims like to keep it that way. I ended up with a club right next door to me and i had alot of problems with the club visitors.

Travis is right about community. Make alot of friends. NOT just acquaintences, but friends. Unfortunately there are alot of griefers out there...so if you can find nice folks, they will draw in even more nice folks, and your club will go well.

Have you looked for land yet? You should first get a 512 sq m 'first land' parcel for L$512, although it's hard to come by at the moment. You can then sell that land for five of six times the price you bought it for. If you're in a rush, however, missing out on first land will cost you about $10 in real terms. It's up to you to decide whether it's worth waiting for some first land to come available. Once you have bought other land you can no longer buy first land.

I echo what everyone has said. There are numerous clubs in sl that sit empty much of the time. The succesful clubs are ones where people go to meet their friends. And, a unique theme will help...something to differentiate your place from countless other generic clubs. There's an Irish pub in Dublin that is a good example of this.

Other key ingredients for success: a friendly host/hostess who will welcome everyone and chat with patrons; a low-lag location; themed events; good music and dancing - all will keep people coming back. The clubs that I returned to during my first week in sl were the ones where the host welcomed me on my first visit, and remembered me on subsequent visits.
