Hi everyone, two questions for you all My boyfriend and I recently purchased a HUGE television for the house. I was told about one non-royalty site to get URLs to watch movies (Reefer Madness being one which absolutely cracks me up every time I see it). Question 1: do any of you know of any sites to get URLs for land media to watch movies, shows, etc? I'll get the ball rolling by adding the one I was told about: www.archive.orgQuestion 2: I've seen movie rentals in-world. The ones I saw ran about 2,000 Lindens *chokes*. Curious how that works in regards to time-frame of the 'rental' and if it's also a matter of putting a URL into the video media line on the land. Thanks for any help/direction! -Deandra

Regarding question 2, it depends on where you rent. Usually once you make the purchase you'll get an object that sets the media URL for you and a notecard explaining the terms.
I've used one place that creates a unique time-limited stream URL for you to use. You get a different URL depending on the rental plan you chose at the time of purchase, and it stops working once the time is up.
I've also used a place that simply gave you an URL to the guy's personal store of movies; it's unlimited time, fixed URLs (you can open your internet browser and see his media folder).
All of them I've seen involve setting the media URL on your land. I've also found that QuickTime 7 causes several problems with Second Life. I and some friends have had to uninstall QuickTime 7 and install QuickTime 6.5.3 or something in order to get videos to work. If you're able to view video streams now with QuickTime 7 without SL dropping to 1 frame per second, you don't have to worry about downgrading.

Thanks much for the info regarding question 2. If you wouldn't mind, could you PM me here or IM me in-world (when it's up and running, that is) with the whereabouts of the places you've gone? If you're busy, I can just meander around & check out places. Dea ETA: I've poked around on google but haven't had any luck re: Question 1. I'm surprised more people don't have answers on that one, considering the amount of media I see out there in-world (both in regards to video playing on some land, and equipment sold on other land).

Remember that many video rental places are either stealing other's URLs or haven't cleared permissions to display them in public or both.

A few more links for quicktime movies. http://del.icio.us/tag/system:filetype:movthe Library of Congress has lots of public domain stuff. Like this retrospective of early animation: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/oahtml/oahome.htmlBlip.tv is a bit like YouTube, but they provide links to the original, uploaded file - which is often a Quicktime movie. http://blip.tv/
