The vice president of marketing at MySQL admitted that the company has introduced features into the Community edition of the software that "[weren't] as robust as we thought, and created some instabilities." http://www.linux.com/feature/118489So, Linden Lab, it's finally time for you to see the light and move on?

I think they could do better than MySQL, but I'm all but certain LL are -not- using the Community edition.

From: Panoptes Argus So, Linden Lab, it's finally time for you to see the light and move on? I'm curious if you have suggestions of something else they should use and how much it would cost to deploy to something as massive as the SL grid..

God, I'm so glad we live in a world where every random person on the internet thinks they can solve every problem by finding an out-of-context quote and dictating company policy by it.

IRL i develop large scale highly available systems that use MySQL in critical components. While MySQL isn't my preferred database (hi postgres), in many years across many versions i have never had a single problem with MySQL's stability or relability.

Open sourcers use that method to justify OS in places its not the perfect fit, so WHY NOT use it against LL / MySQL?

That's in my RL too, and I've had plenty of problems with MySQL's reliability. And just as bad with Oracle and DB2 and SQL Server, and before that... uh, nevermind . Anyway, each proved time and again to be just one new SQL statement from becoming my latest least favorite. It's easy to find reasons to advise against any distributed RDBMS, but anybody thinking of advocating one would be well-advised to first check their parachute and arrow-proof vest.

So are the Lindens and their forum-cheerleadersL with their 'platform' and '3D internet' terms for a buggy and unstable chatroom/game, so it fits!
