Hi there, Been using SL all day with no probs - apart from the obvious ones today. Just tried to log in, clicked on the icon, programme gets as far as 'detecting hardware' then stops. No login screen, nothing. Tried reinstalling SL, restarting, checking video drivers etc etc. Any ideas???? Was working perfectly, until after the grid was reopened a few hours ago. System is Sony Viao Vista Nvidia Geforce Go 7400 Loads of ram etc Updated drivers. Any advice seriously appreciated  Thanks, Duder

That sounds like a Crash To Desktop (CTD). I've had a couple of those the past 72 hours, I have no idea whether it is related to the recent "crisis".
Reboot the computer and then try again as that has always worked for me on these new CTDs.
There may be some other program that did crashed or otherwise did not close gracefully (perhaps an earlier running of SL) and you need to restart the computer to force everything back to normal.
