Hello. I realize this thread may get a more detailed response in the Technical Forum, but I find that forum boring and slow with responses, lol.
Does the SL viewer require Java to be installed on your computer? Does it have to be updated? While on the topic of Java, I currently have J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10 installed on my computer. It's free Java I got from http://java.sun.com/ I'm kind of confused as to what the latest version of the runtime environment is.

I'm about 99.9% certain you don't need Java installed to run SL, the SL viewer isn't a Java application.

Second Life was the first program I installed after the XP OS (impatient, much?) when I built my new computer and I did not need to install Java to run the viewer.
As for latest runtime version, wouldn't that be whatever is available for download from Sun?

From: Gaybot Foxley Does the SL viewer require Java to be installed on your computer? No. From: someone I currently have J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10 installed on my computer. I believe that's the latest version. Either way, it'll auto-update like Windows updates do.

Ok, thank you guys. I was just confused about the version of Sun java because they have so many. Examples: EE, SE, 5.0 Runtime Environment update 11, version 6? Net Beans? lol
